Hello My New Home in Chicago!
Modern, boutique-y, sexy. I love The James!! I had called the night before asking if I could check in a day early. No problem (and they honored the rate for my other booked nights even though it was more). When my cab dropped me off a half block away and I was struggling with my luggage, a bellman appeared out of nowhere looking horrified and promptly whisked me and my luggage into the hotel. Great first impression! Upon check in I requested a room with the best view possible, which was granted.
Location: About a block & a half from Michigan Ave. Tons of restaurants to chose from, shopping galore and within walking distance to many tourist attractions (Navy Pier, John Hancock Building, Lake Shore Drive, etc.)
The room: When I walked in I breathed a sigh of relief and immediately felt at home. Super comfy bed and pillows, plenty of room, great city view, nice lounger chair, modern bathroom with an ample supply of body wash, shampoo & conditioner, which was refreshing and actually something that I felt comfortable washing my hair with. Cute little nook with a table and couch (even though I didn't use it). Free WiFi as well. As a few others have mentioned, I had a slight issue with hot water on one of the days, but it resolved itself within a few minutes. One small critique was the variety of channels to watch on tv (James, you need the Bravo channel!) and the tv guide didn't match what was actually on.
Room service: Ordered a fruit bowl one day and steak frites for dinner another. The steak was a bit fattier than I would have liked, but was juicy and tasted delicious. The asiago truffle fries that came with it: oh.my.god. Beyond addicting. It also came with a fresh popover, but I'm not a fan of popovers in general, so I took an obligatory bite and that was it.
Housekeeping: Wonderful. Room was cleaned immaculately each day and received turn down service each night. It's nice to come back to your dimly lit room with soft music playing and a freshly baked cookie (each night a different type) on the bed next to your robe. One day someone knocked on my door to replace the shower curtain that housekeeping had reported, when I didn't even notice any problem. I like that they pay attention to the tiniest of details. There is no ice machine, but at turn down, a bucket filled with ice was always left by the mini bar.
The gym: Kind of small but it's amazing how many quality pieces of equipment fit in there. I worked it out every day! ; ) Loved the pitchers of ice water with orange slices in... perfect to re-hydrate!
Other: Helpful, friendly staff, Trader Joe's & Starbucks across the street, triple filtered water, which is replenished each day, and check out at 2pm!
Love this hotel! Can't wait to go back!!!
