The James Hotel is perfectly located to all tourist attractions and public transportations. Coming from O'Hare, the blue line / red line subway brings you right to the hotel ( 1.5 blocks ). The first impression was awesome...friendly bell boy, friendly stuff and a very inviting atmosphere. This is were I want to stay when I travel for business or pleasure. There were several newspapers and magazines available as well as something to drink. The room was very big and very tasteful decorated - quiet, bright and open with a nice bathroom (3 sets of towels were available and a bath robe ) and a big tv. Internet was also for free available. I stayed for only 2 nites but I enjoyed every single minute. Because my flight was leaving very late, I was able to arrange a late check out and later they stored my luggage until I left to the airport. Everybody was very helpful and friendly - job well done!

This is our second stay at the James and it was just as perfect this time. We cannot express enough how wonderful the staff are. Everybody is efficient, friendly and thoughtful. They remember our daughters name, remember our plans for the day, offer water at exactly the right moment, predict every last need. Housekeeping is prompt, doormen are spectacular, turndown reliable. I love the little touches like the complimentary hot chocolate with homemade flavored marshmallows.

If you are a foodie, the restaurant is superb, with the best bacon I have ever had. They serve food all throughout the day from a variety of menus. Do not skip their breakfast which is worth every penny. (Yes, it's expensive)

The only thing that I don't care for in the hotel are the bathroom doors. In order to save space, the designers added sliding doors in the bathrooms which limit privacy.

Recently stayed two nights at the James and thought it was good, not great but good. Check-in was easy and quick, we upgraded to a little larger room ($360 per night) which was a good thing because the rooms are not large. View we had looked directly into another building which appeared to be apartments so our shades had to remain closed most of the time. Bed was comfortable, nice robes for each of us and a nice wet bar. The location was great, just off Michigan Ave. and easy walk to Rush Street. SMALL bar downstairs, I think they had 6 seats at the bar and a couple of low couches. Very low-key atmosphere. Ate at David Burke's Primehouse one night and let's just say it was less than stellar!
All in all, the James was not bad but there are just too many great hotels in Chicago for the same money or less.

Very well located, within walking distance of everything, close to the Magnificent Mile, easy walk to the River. Had a Trader Joe's store across the road, where you can buy lots to make your own sandwiches etc. The only drawback to me was the parking which was valet and offsite and cost over $50/day but a lot of downtown hotels are like that. Staff are friendly and helpful, would stay again,
