“Take your money elsewhere”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed December 8, 2013

This dingy and run-down place will actually turn you away at the door if they determine you're wearing "gym shoes" - defined as anything even remotely casual. We tried to bring some out of town friends here this evening but were denied entry for casual but fashionable shoes two of us were wearing despite dress shirts and ties. They offered loaner shoes! I said "if our shoes aren't good enough for you then you're not good enough for us... goodbye!" Completely offensive and ridiculous. Take your money elsewhere like we did and have a great time while this place slowly goes out of business for being stuck in the 1950's.

“Disappointed with a weird vibe”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed November 11, 2013

Meant to drop by here for so long and finally got there, met at the door by security who told us it was mandatory to check our coats, ok that done and we then grabbed a seat and ordered two drinks, mine was fine, the other was light on the vodka, mentioned this to the bartender who wasn't interested.

What really left us uncomfortable was the nature of the security, the clientele were mainly Middle Aged with mainly couples, the place was half empty yet there were two suited security guys who patrolled the bar area holding walking talkies, it was 8 pm, that was apart from the guy at the door. The piano player was fine but the atmosphere was not good, security was overdone and left us wondering had we strayed into a rough joint, I didn't think it was but maybe it needs that level of overt security. Not for us.

“Had a Blast”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 5, 2013 via mobile

As usual did not disappoint. The atmosphere and music are electric. Music started at 8. We got there at 7:30 and were able to sit at bar but not around the piano. Now we were told the dress code had loosened a bit as we saw lots of people in Jeans. Not sure about tennis shoes. That has always been forbidden.

“It's a 3.5 and def go knowing that ...”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed November 1, 2013

I've only been 3 times on trips over but loved it as sat near piano each time. This time I asked the door guy if we were dressed as we were but had our converse on (as we had most other nights of our trip, including posh restaurants) if we'd have got in - he did say no as he'd had to turn others away. So. How does your footwear define you in this day and age. I brought the high heels just for this bar? But once in we were in prime position by the piano / window and had a fab evening. Now, I wouldn't go there and sit further back as it's a bit detached. The service knows they have a transient audience so don't show any level of commitment. So, lot's to improve on, but yes, I'd go back - for 1-2 nights only. And always recommend it based on above. BTW the 2 piano players we saw on the Fri night were amazing. Great entertainers

“Chicago Shame”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed October 18, 2013

Took my wife in for a nice cocktail and music.

Outstandingly poor and so called select service prevailed.

Fell into the reserved table trap and was subject to real Illinois rudeness.

The best part of this over priced dive was when the so called waiter stuck a reserved sign on our table and moved us on.

Nice - and the music was really mediocre too.

AVOID!
