I go this the Duke of Perth fairly often and like it a lot. However, the last time I was there I chose to veer from my usual menu selections into unfamiliar territory- the salmon and cod cakes. What a disappointment! First of all, they were severely deep fried and resembled thin fried eggplant rather than "cakes". That alone would not necessarily be a non-starter if they tasted good, but they were terrible. I could taste NO cod or salmon in them. In fact, I'm not sure I wasn't served fried eggplant because it really reminded me of that. I should have immediately returned the dish but, as usual, I kept quiet as to not upend the general good times the rest of the table was having. But, I will never oder that dish again and advise anyone else to avoid it unless you particularly like overly fried "fish" that tastes exactly like eggplant.
