First and foremost, I was exceptionally disappointed in their unwillingness to take a reservation for a family of four celebrating two birthdays and two children leaving for college. When they wouldn't take a reservation I asked them to accommodate my request for noting the birthday surprises so I didn't have to do it in front of my wife and daughter. They were unwilling to do so!
The food was nothing special, although the charbroiled steak (casa) was indeed one of the best I've tasted in Chicago. However, the taco dinner was wet/runny, and the famed margarita's were a tremendous disappointment--they tasted like pre-mixed Cuevo! The guacamole was very good, but the portion for the money was not a "value." The queso fundido was another disappointment--virtually no sausage was in it at all.
We took to-go boxes, and a five days later all of the food was still in the refrigerator! To me that speaks volumes. All-in-all, I've had much better "authentic" Mexican dining experiences in Chicago.
Having said that, for the money not bad. My daughter insist we eat there whenever she's in the City.
