“Close to Science Museum, good food, playground across street”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 18, 2013

If you go to the Museum of Science and Industry, this place is walking distance from there and beats the heck out of the food you can get at the museum. It's a sandwich/ice cream/coffee place with outdoor seating and a handy playground across the street. My son had a delicious hot dog, I had the filling and yummy tuna melt and my step-dad had some kind of wrap. It was huge. The coffee was good and they had kid-size milk shakes, which is nice. My son can never finish a regular-size one. This isn't haute cuisine, but it's tasty, fresh, filling, and not too expensive. And they playground...did I mention the playground? A kid needs to get the ya-yas out after hours in a crowded, intense museum. And then it's just a few minutes walk back to the bus to downtown.

“Funky and fun”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 19, 2013

The tables and booths are carved up and written on, the walls are covered with unusual art and statues, and the place is nearly always crowded with U of Chicago students and locals, but it's still THE place to eat in Hyde Park.

I had a wonderful burger and my wife a reuben (not as much meat as most places but very good). The bread on both sandwiches was unusual and very good. We were too full for dessert but they looked good and the milkshakes we saw were being happily consumed.

“Nice sweet stuff - but little seating”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 28, 2013

We pop in here whenever we're in Chicago - the coffee is great. The pastries are terrific, especially the spinch pies. Only 4 tables inside and often theses are taken up by students and their laptops - sometimes only one student and a lot of bags. But the children like Medici's which is also opposite a favourite park.

“Hyde Park Icon”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 20, 2013 via mobile

So, we stopped with friends yesterday for dinner at Medici. What a great place. Reminds me of some of the old quirky bars in New Haven, with one notable exception: like most (all?) places in Hyde Park, this place is BYOB - and if you forget your "B", you're out of luck as the closest place is Treasure Island, which is not walkable. The menu is mostly quirky sandwiches which all sound delicious. I got one with prosciutto and Gouda cheese. Very good. Service is good. I will say if you're uncomfortable in tight places, there is not a lot of space between people when the place fills up.
