“Great Pizza in Southside Chicago if you're nearby”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 27, 2009

Read other reviews and went to check it out when last in Chicago. The pizza is certainly very good and the service was very friendly. Lots of kids and families were there on the Saturday night we visited. It is a long way from downtown Chicago, so would only recommend for those in the Southside area.

“A great local pizza place.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 21, 2009

Visited here on business and happened to be working about 5 blocks from this place. Co-workers suggested it, so I got a extra large sausage and extra cheese. Was suprised that I got a thin crispy crust in Chicago, but hey, that happens to be my preference anyway. All natural cheese, large chunks of sausage. it was a really good pie. I would definitely goo back for more. Kudos to the register staff. I asked for a 2xl t shirt, and they looked through them all, even in the back to see if any were there, sadly only in orange.

every time i go to chicago home run inn is a must do. you can tell by the packed dining room just how good that pizza is! i usually am a pepperoni eater, but there is something about the sausage and cheese, wow. can't really explain what it is, it;s really basic sauce, crust and heavy in the cheese. you have not eaten pizza in chicago unless you've tried home run inn.

“This is a "must try." Best pizza.”

Now I remember why I was SO ANGRY when I bought the frozen, grocery version of Home Run Inn pizza. I'm in Chicago for a conference, and went to the original HRI for dinner last night. Hadn't been in about 20 years. OMG! My first bite was like falling in love all over again! This pizza is just delicious. I mean DELICIOUS. You don't need extra anything. They are generous with the cheese, meat, veggies. The crust is amazing. I have tried pizza in New York, Philly, and so many other places, but NO PLACE beats Chicago pizza. I'm not just talking about deep dish or stuff (which people often equate with Chi-town). I mean, those are signature Chicago pies, but we also enjoy a good, thin-crust pizza, and these guys have it DOWN!

The restaurant is in a real, Chicago neighborhood...meaning everything is not pretty and sanitized for tourists. The residents are very diverse. The traffic can be heavy, and it can be a little scary depending on what time you go, but it is worth it. This place is famous and its customers are very diverse (hispanic, black, white, etc). The building is older. The service is polite. They sell t-shirts and stuff like that.

Now, back to my gripe about the frozen HRI pizzas. Okay, so they are better than half of the fresh pizzas you can get in most places, but they don't do the fresh HRI pizzas justice. If you get to the city, and you are looking for a good way to see "the real Chicago," look this place up. This is truly a Chicago landmark. If you like pizza, you gotta try Home Run Inn. Oh yeah, and they have a whole line of appetizers, alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks, and pastas.
