Description: Located just steps from Michigan Avenue in the heart of Chicago's thriving Streeterville neighborhood, Sayat Nova is a cozy, romantic enclave tucked back from the city's urban sprawl. Since 1970, we have offered Armenian cuisine that presents a slightly earthier variation on typical Mediterranean fare.

“Great flavors in a budget.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 13, 2014

The lentil soup was really good. We ordered the lulla kebab and the chicken/shrimp kebab…both very tasty. They also have vegetarians choices. The service was good even they were getting ready for a big group. Great choice to be away from chain restaurant in a budget.

“Go for the trout!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 13, 2014

If you love to eat trout, I think you would be hard pressed to find trout prepared better than at Sayat Nova. It was so good, we considered ordering a second entrée for dessert. They also have a few nice wines by the glass. The shredded philo dough dessert was good as was the coffee. Service was good, too. Everything else, such as the red cabbage, the cucumbers in yogurt sauce, the dinner salad with shredded red cabbage and shredded carrots, and the mojito, was just okay. The décor was adequate but, while the semi-circular booths looked like they would be comfortable, they really weren't. Unless you were sitting in the very middle of the semi-circle or, perhaps, if you are very tall, the edge of the seat cuts behind one knee. The edge cutting behind my knee was uncomfortable and distracting during dinner. Even though I can't give this restaurant a five-star review, I absolutely plan to return...for the trout, wine, dessert and coffee.

“Delicious Armenian food”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 11, 2014

I have been taught to steer clear of chain restaurants and have experienced more unique foods that way. Sayat Nova East Armenian adds to the list of great finds. I was with a group of 10 on a Saturday evening. We had a reservation, which was a good thing because the place filled up really fast. The initial service was prompt but then was spotty and missing somewhat as the evening went on, likely because they were quite crowded. We ordered the appetizer samplers to share and red & white wines. We then ordered mains that come with lentil soup or a salad. Everyone was pleased with their selections. My chicken and shrimp shish kebabs were quite good. As stated, after the main courses arrived service was an issue and we had to beg a waitress to order another bottle of wine and get more water. The food is quite good and more than makes up for the spotty service issues we had. I would easily go back.

“One of a kind”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 5, 2014

When I travel, I look for non-chain ethnic restaurants. This place fit the bill perfectly. In town for a small meeting, all 10 of us booked a table on a Saturday evening. Good thing we did, since it filled up fast after our 7:00pm arrival.

Initially, the service was quite prompt and efficient. We ordered some appetizers to share and some wine. After the appetizers, we ordered mains (which come with lentil soup or a salad). No one complained about their selections. My shish kebab was quite good. (I'm fond of lamb in most forms.)

Once the main courses arrived, service seemed to slack off. We had to flag people down to order more wine, to get water glasses refilled and to order dessert.

Bottom line: the food is good enough to make the inconsistent service tolerable.
