We were in town on April 3rd for "Big Fish" at the Oriental Theater and decided to eat at Petterino's, because it was so close to the theater. I called the same day for reservations that evening, but they said they only had reservations for four - there were only two of us and they did not offer to fit us in. They suggested coming in around 5:00 p.m., because they usually hold open some spaces for walk-ins. We arrived at 5:00 p.m. and were seated right away in the front section of the restaurant. It looked like it might be a little more cozy in back, so I asked if we could be seated there. She said she would check with the Maitre D', and when I checked back with her we were told that we would have to stay with our original seating. Could have been handled a little more graciously.
Our meals were excellent. I ordered the filet with bernaise sauce, and my husband had the specialty cheeseburger and fries. I suggested he try something other than the $16 hamburger since we were in a nice restaurant, but both he and our waiter still liked the hamburger idea. The waiter said it was worth the $16 - and once ordering it my husband agreed. We both had salads which were very good.
When we arrived the front area where we sat was empty, but it soon became very crowded. One group of four that was seated as we were leaving said that they had 6:00 p.m. reservations. It was now 6:35 p.m. Looks like our walk in worked better than reservations. The place was hopping; and once people started arriving I really enjoyed where we were seated and the atmosphere of the restaurant.
The doors on one side open into the Goodman Theater.
Would definitely recommend this restaurant when you are attending the theater. Although it was packed and there was a waiting line, our server never rushed us.
I would have given them a five-star rating, but I didn't like how they handled it when I called for reservations and when we were seated, requesting another location.
