So for a Cleveland, Ohio girl, Chicago pizza places are a bit odd for me. It's just a bit weird to stand in line to order your pie, then wait for your table, then some little time after that your pizza is delivered to your table. The process is a bit foreign, but the results are worth it.
Pizzaria Due is just down the street from Pizzaria Uno--both packed, both related. After we ordered our pizza, we headed to the bar for some beverages while we waited for our table. The bar tender seemed overwhelmed, and it took at least 20 minutes for him to even take our drink order. Now all 4 adults ordered draft beer--quick and easy. Yet it took another 10 minutes for us to get those. My 5 year old, ordered a smoothie. It was yummy, but not quite worth the wait.
I will say that they have a great selection of draft beers, most if not all of them being local Chicago brews which was awesome.
Tables are very close together (Chicago restaurants believe in maximizing their capacity--the fire inspectors must shudder). The decor and accomodations are well worn, and un-noteworthy.
The pizza however, is worth all of the above, IMHO. Great, gooey, hedonistic deep dish pizza with loads of pepperoni and sausage. Paired with a cold draft beer, this should be a prerequisite first stop when you arrive in Chicago.
Only Chicago does pizza like this. Be prepared to skip your next meal, however. This pizza sticks to your ribs.
