“Fun fare and good ambiance”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed October 29, 2007

This one of a few Colombian restaurants in the Chicagoland area. While I have been to its cousin in the Southport Area, Pueblito Viejo has a friendlier staff, and the management, headed by Wilson, does go out of its way to cater to the diner's needs, to ensure a pleasurable experience. Prices are resonable ($8.00- $15.00) for most entrees, and the bar is fully stocked. Valet parking is available on Fridays and Saturdays, and the restaurant is open till 2 for late night cocktailing and snacking.

Food presentation is done well, offers a variety of dishes for the vegetarians, and the decor is in theme with a rainforest and tropical climate, which some may find a bit overbearing/overwhelming. Servers are dressed in traditional Colombian garb, and there are plenty of television sets for those who want to catch a game, but do not want to leave the main dining area. A giant television screen projects it all in the center of the dining area, which also seconds as a dance floor and for entertainment, as on weekends a dj spins for those who wish to have an interactive dining experience.

The food is good, the service is friendly, and the management goes out of its way. The only thing lacking is that unless you are accustomed to Latin fare or are familiar with the area, Pueblito Viejo is not the place to become familiar with Colombian cuisine. It is an ethnic restaurant, and not for those who are used to the type of fare available downtown, where tastes are catered to American palattes.
