Description: Bistro Campagne is a warm and friendly neighborhood restaurant in the tradition of a true French bistro. From the beginning, Bistro Campagne has strived to capture and express that ephemeral quality found in favorite small neighborhood bistros in Paris and rural France: the sense of welcome, ease, fun conversation & and of course excellent food. The setting is a charming blend of prairie-inspired decor and lively Gallic spirit. It is the food, however, that is at the heart of a great bistro, and Chef Michael Altenberg offers a seasonally changing menu of classic bistro fare that is based on the best ingredients he can find. His commitment to organic agriculture leads him to seek products from local organic farmers throughout our Midwestern growing season, and even from organic farms on the west coast throughout the winter. Bistro Campagne is committed to the use of organic food products and strongly supports the sustainable, low impact agriculture movement.

“Great service, tasty French fare”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 12, 2013

Very quaint restaurant. Beautiful french auberge look to it. We got a table in the courtyard on a warm night. The food was very good. Loved the croque Madame . The meat was very lean . The fries were perfect. The portions are very generous. The deserts are excellent! don't miss the tarte tatin with delicious thin apple slices . Loved the pain Perdu , one of the best around. Coffee was very good as well. The best thing about this place is the service. Our waitress Kat was very attentive and very pleasant. Will definitely go back .

“Very Disappointed”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed January 23, 2013

After reading many reviews I really wanted to like this restaurant. The two of us went early on a Wednesday night so it was not crowded. We had the prix fix special which was reasonably priced but each course did not deliver. The onion strudel (one of their signature dishes) was luke warm the pastry was under cooked and gummy and the onion had no flavor. The roasted squash soup was thin and tasteless and at least needed a pinch of salt. The hanger steak was properly cooked but not hot enough to melt the pat of compound butter. The biggest disappointment were the frites which were seriously under cooked. It was almost if they were par fried then not finished in hot oil. This may have been an off night but I will never know.

“Exceptional food in an intimate setting”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 12, 2013 via mobile

Overall a fantastic experience. Both the drinks and the food were exceptional, the staff friendly, and the environment pleasant. I'd happily eat here many times again.
