“Lovely hotel - would highly reccommend”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 27, 2011

We booked this hotel for five nights of our honeymoon because of the price and it's locality to the prime sights if you want a bit of a walk. It's a really handy base for getting out into the city - being chose to the Magnificent Mile and to stops for the CTA and additionally the buses however if your traveling from Union Station hire a taxi there - it's bit of a hassle and a journey trying to get there using public transport. The staff were all very friendly and helpful. The room itself was of an average size, with free Aveda products, wifi and a mini bar which was a little pricey but the rooms were very clean and modern looking. The free continental breakfast was a great addition with plenty of variety [fruit, yoghurts, pastries and drinks]. The room view however was a little disappointing - a view over a roof to a water tower especially when you consider the price and I would suggest this was a hotel more for couples rather then family trips.

What can I say? The Amalfi had a unique personal feel. They were conveniently located to amazing restaurants, shops, the L, and sightseeing. This hotel offered extremely comfortable beds with the best pillows I’ve ever laid my head upon. They were extremely helpful in booking tours (the Art river cruise tour to be exact) and offered a delicious happy hour. Note on the happy hour: get there early as it is held in a small room with limited space. Don’t forget to bring your ID if you look younger and plan to drink. The hotel is located next to a bar (I believe it was called the Pour House) that is super packed during happy hour and a fun youthful crowd on the weekend nights). Everyone at the hotel was extremely helpful and courtliest and the next time my travels bring to Chicago, I will be staying here.

We did a two-night weekend getaway to celebrate my birthday with friends. The hotel staff was very helpful in getting our group restaurant reservations, and during our stay they were very, very friendly and helpful. The location is great, and they provide a free cocktail hour with appetizers. There was absolutely nothing they could do better.

Room Tip: The 6th floor is where the nightly cocktail hour takes place.

We have stayed at many high end properties in Chicago and around the world. The Amalfi is our absolute favorite hotel in Chicago. Our most recent stay was for my husband's birthday weekend. We had a wonderful, relaxing time at the hotel. The staff goes out of its way to make your stay a nice one, from the bell staff to housekeeping--everyone is terrific. The breakfast in the morning is a very nice continental buffet, with yogurt, whole fruit, cereal, and various types of pastry. It is a lovely spread. The evening service is also nice, with an open bar and hors d'oeuvres in the lounge on the top floor of the hotel. This is a nice place to have a drink before going to dinner or theater. Over the years, I've become very sensitive to sound issues in hotel rooms. I slept like a baby here with absolutely no noise problems at all. And as an FYI to people who do not frequent city hotels--the bathroom is quite large for a city hotel with plenty of room to move around (which cannot be said for bathrooms at other high end hotels in this city). The rooms are also decorated nice and bright, which is very inviting (especially during a midwestern winter). The hotel is in an excellent location--you're in easy walking distance to theater, shopping, etc. As a final FYI to dog lovers--we have stayed at this hotel both with our dogs and without our dogs. Many of us who travel with our best canine friend are concerned about what kind of room we will be given. Whether you are traveling with or without your canine pal, you will be given the same beautiful, clean room. And as a plus, there is no pet fee (and there is no size restriction, to the best of my knowledge). This is truly our favorite place to stay when we need a getaway in our hometown. We'll be back!

My stay here was six nights. The first three were business-related, and I stayed in a room with two queen beds. The second part of the trip was for fun, with a friend joining me in Chicago. We booked a one-bedroom suite for those three nights.

This is an incredible location. On the corner of State Street, you are just a short walk to the bridge and the heart of downtown. If you like walking (and the weather obliges), you can get most places near downtown. The subway and El are also nearby. I was really happy with the location.

The rooms are nicely done and a decent size. The suite was quite nice for two of us old friends to spend time hanging out. The layout is a bit odd (one tiny closet, bathroom off the living room rather than the bedroom). I was on the third floor, then the second. There are only six floors in the building, so there is not going to be much of a view regardless. The only thing that might induce me to try another hotel in Chicago is the quest for a great view. Chicago is so stunning, architecturally, and it would be nice to see that from your room.

Amalfi is guilty of one of my pet peeves (the $7 bottle of water), but not the other (the minibar fridge could be used to store an item or two, rather than being electronically monitored like some hotels). But they do have a decent continental breakfast available right on your floor, which is a great perk.

The Aveda soap, lotion, shampoo etc. was a nice touch. The service was great.

One little thing they could do to improve: add more electrical outlets. I generally have 3-4 gadgets, and there was a dearth of convenient places to plug them in.

We spent two nights at the Amalfi in December to get some Christmas shopping in. It was great. We were just off Michigan Ave. The room was good size and very clean. The morning breakfast was beyond expectations, and the free happy hour was great. I would recommend this hotel.

Good hotel, free wifi, excellent breakfast you can pick up on your way down, big rooms. We were satisfied.
Only drawback, there is a rage number of rooms without a view, just offices in front, no light during the day.
