We recently enjoyed 4 nights at the Amalfi Hotel, Chicago, over the Labour Day weekend and cannot find fault with our accommodation. We got an exceptionally good nightly rate deal via Travel Ticker.
The Amalfi Hotel is ideally situated to enjoy Chicago. Excellent location just north of the Chicago River, only a 10 minute walk from the Clark/Lake Blue Line station from O’Hare and about the same from the Red Line. The hotel is within easy walking to the Loop and the Magnificent Mile, and is surrounded by numerous great restaurants and bars. There is also a grocery store just up the street.
Check in was quick. While there was a second floor room available, we decided to have our bags held and wait for a 6th floor room. The Amalfi Hotel is only 6 floors in total as it is at the base of a larger office building, so, if you are looking for amazing views of Chicago, this is not the hotel for you. We did not feel views were important, so the Amalfi Hotel was just fine for us. The hotel is situated slightly off a main street and is very quiet for sleeping. We were never disturbed by other guests.
The Amalfi Hotel is quite chic in design and the lobby has some interesting furniture. The room itself was a nice size and well appointed with a comfy king-sized bed, a flat screen TV, desk and chair and a lounge chair. There was a fully stocked mini bar and a coffee maker. Plenty of drawer space and a nice sized closet. The bathroom was quite large and the Aveda products were very nice. The shower had a double head and we never had issues with water pressure or temperature. There is a blow dryer provided which was really appreciated – one less thing to pack.
The room was spotlessly clean upon arrival and cleaned each day. We appreciated the hotels environmental efforts and endeavoured to use our towels.
A nice bonus was free Wi-Fi. Not sure why some hotels still charge for this feature. We brought along our lap top and had no problems logging in and found the service very good. There is a large safe in the room where we stored the lap top during the day when we were gone. Local and toll free calls were no charge.
The real bonus of staying at the Amalfi Hotel is the breakfast and evening reception. We enjoyed both each day, padding down the hall in the morning for breakfast in our comfy robes and slippers found in the room, and around and down the hall in the evening for cocktails and snack before heading out for dinner. We were informed of both the breakfast and evening reception upon check in, the staff indicating the hours and locations for both. Breakfast hours do change slightly from weekdays to weekend.
Breakfast included coffee, tea, juice, assorted cereals, pastries, English muffins, bagels, toast, fresh fruit, yogurt, jams….. plenty to get us started each day. The evening reception was amazing with specialty cocktails as well as wine, beer and a full bar. The snacks included meats and cheeses, pitas and crostinis, hummus, olives, vegetables, dips…. all nicely presented.
The staff at the Amalfi Hotel were all very nice. Front desk, house keeping and the breakfast/reception staff were all very friendly and accommodating.
The Amalfi Hotel was a great base for visiting Chicago and we will definitely consider a return stay for our next visit.
