We spent a great day on the Pianissimo with Captain Larry and his helper Kara during the Air and Water Show. This was a trip we waited an entire year for - we had reservations for the previous year but we were rained out. We were excited to be out on the water and to get a great view of the airplanes and of the Chicago skyline.
The Pinissimo is a 50 foot sailboat built in 2011. It is located in DuSable Harbor just south of Navy Pier. Apparently there could be 6 passengers but my wife and I were the only ones on board besides the crew. According to the website, prices start at $310.00 for a 2 hour private charter. We had 4 hours reserved for about that price due to a promotion they were offering last year. Don't forget the tip.
We took our own wine and picnic meal of cheese, meat, and crackers. They were happy to keep wine in the fridge until we wanted it (that was the only glass allowed on board). They have restroom facilities, and seating everywhere, including tables above and below deck if you need to get out of the sun for a bit. You can also swim off the back, which we did not take advantage of during this trip.
The crew was helpful, careful, and friendly. We are not experienced at sailing by any means, so it was interesting and entertaining watching the crew work the sails.
I would recommend this excursion to others looking for a relaxing boat outing, and a great view of Chicago. I believe they will also cater the food for you if you ask ahead of time.
