“Great stay, great location, lovely room and friendly staff”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 9, 2013

We stayed at the Ivy Boutique Hotel for 3 nights from May 8-11 2013. It was our first trip to Chicago and was in the middle of a holiday to the States (we are from Australia).

First of all the location is perfect. Right off the Magnificent Mile. We were able to walk everywhere we needed, into the loop, millennium park and all the key sites with ease from the hotel. You couldn't ask for better.

The staff are friendly and from the moment we checked-in were incredibly helpful. I'd like to particularly single out the doorman who's name escapes me (starts with a K I think!). He helped us with great restaurant recommendations, including giving us a voucher to a great pizza place called Pizza Uno (definitely go - amazing!) and also organised an airport car for us on check-out to avoid the small taxi which would have barely taken our luggage. At check-in reservations also gave us a great voucher to eat at the nearby pub while our room was getting ready and we were entertained at the downstairs bar one evening while waiting for a dinner reservation by the friendly bar man explaining the rules of ice hockey to us novice Aussies.

We were fortunate also to be upgraded to a King suite facing the front and if we come back I'll definitely book one of these rooms. Spacious, relaxing and the perfect oasis after a busy day sightseeing. The lounge was perfect to relax in, bed was comfy and the bathroom was a great size - huge shower and spacious bathtub!

We were also lucky our stay coincided with the roof top bar officially opening for the summer season. What a great way to relax in the sun of an evening. Only down fall was the barmaid on the night we went who was unlike the rest of the hotel staff and a bit rude and on herself!

I cannot recommend this hotel enough. I knew nothing about it when I booked and took a gamble and it paid off. It has a great personality, isn't part of a big chain and I'd definitely stay again if we are lucky to go to Chicago again.

Tips for Chicago... definitely do the architectural boat tour, do the gangsters tour (very fun and better than a tourist bus tour), eat at Pizza Uno (or Due), eat at The Purple Pig (on Miracle Mile), do a tour of the Chicago Theatre and see some art!

Room Tip: Treat yourself and book a King suite on a higher level if you can. Not much of a view other than oth...

Stayed a night at the Ivy during a recent trip starting in Chicago. This hotel exceeded our expectations. The staff takes great care of their customers. The rooms were super clean and comfy. Great detail was given to the rooms in layout and convenience. Next time we are in Chicago, we will be staying again at the Ivy.

This is one of the most beautiful hotels that we have ever stayed at in Chicago, and we have stayed at several. The staff was very friendly and professional. The rooms are amazing! The bathroom had built in TV in the mirror, the sleeping area had another TV, and the sitting area and yet another TV. The bed was the most comfortable bed EVER!!! We weren't there for any of the meals and did not order room service, but the menu was very tempting. This is definitely a must experience to appreciate hotel. We will be going again in the future.

Room Tip: Didn't use the pool or spa, so that is why I didn't rate them. You must stay here. You won...

4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 26, 2013

Stayed for two nights at the Ivy last week. It is under a year old, which was obvious when my cab driver wasn't familiar with its location.

This intimate hotel has only five rooms per floor. Rooms are stylish with great amenities including nightly turn down service complete with two bite-sized desserts - small white and dark chocolate chip cookies when I arrived and the next night a chocolate-dipped strawberry and small carrot cake. These were placed on an elegant tray along with the next day's weather forecast and a breakfast menu each evening on the comfortable platform bed.

The spacious bathroom has a great rain shower and a separate hand-held wand. Lighting is abysmal, however the hotel is replacing all the mirrors so hopefully that will come with new lighting as well. It would also be nice to have a separate switch for the bathroom fan rather than it coming on instantly with the lights.

There is a new rooftop lounge which I didn't get to go to but looks lovely with great drinks and a bar menu of small plates.

The location is fantastic - very central to everything on the Miracle Mile. All the staff were cordial and accommodating. What better recommendation could be said than I will definitely stay here again.

Stayed for one night at the Ivy when it first opened. I must say that they try hard to separate themselves from other hotels and keep an eco friendly vibe, unfortunately I wasn't overly impressed. We've stayed at nearly all the top hotels in downtown Chicago and we have our expectations high. The staff was friendly but not the most helpful. The rooms were poorly light (energy conservation was their reason they gave me). I found smudges on the wood floor and hair in the bathtub (that we didn't use because of it). The bed was ok, and the living room lacked comfort. The TV in the bedroom was entirely too big for the space and if you had it on it would be nearly impossible for someone else to sleep. The location is great and a convenient walk or short cab ride to all the major things to do downtown.

I try to pick small hotels when visiting new cities. The location is great for walking to many landmarks as well as an incredible number of restaurants. The staff was helpful, polite and very attentive. Great recommendations as well as directions. The skylight terrace was open for small plates and drinks. Our room was modern with a great rainfall shower including turndown with yummy cookies. Thoroughly enjoyable stay.

Stayed one night at the Ivy. Great location, made shopping and eating very walkable. You're only a couple of blocks away from great shopping on North Michigan Avenue! We got upgraded to a suite. So beautiful and spacious. Loved the upscale toiletries and the ultimate BEST thing there is the shower! OMG! it was a steady stream of wonder, it was luxurious and so relaxing. The bed was very comfortable, though a little soft for my husband. The AC was very quiet. Heard the neighbor's shower but otherwise the room seemed quiet with the TV canceling any outside noise. Everyone at the hotel was friendly and welcoming. The Sky Terrace was still not opened so we'll have to return on our next Chicago trip. There was just one small mishap...the front desk person accidentally unexpectedly entered our room while we were in there. He was checking out a vacant room for a hotel guest and mistakenly opened ours. He even called later to apologize again. The valets/bell hops were great! We'll definitely will return for another stay here!

Room Tip: The building of the new and large Northwestern medical facility is right across the street but surpr...
