5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 23, 2014

Had a family reunion in Chicago that ended a day before my wife's birthday so we stayed over a couple of days to celebrate and sightsee and booked a room at the Acme Hotel . Immediately after booking my reservation online I started receiving emails from the reservations manager Jennifer Cunningham wanting to know how she could tailor my visit to suit my needs, and this outstanding customer service is what you will get from her all the way down to housekeeping and their great bellman , Captain ?.
The superlatives could go on and on but in summary - rooms are rather small but certainly
Adequate, GREAT bed and bedding , good free coffee delivered to your door when you tell them you want it, great bakery and bar. I could go on and on but the real stars of this property are Ms. Cunningham and its perfect location, surrounded by high ticket hotels charging. 2-4 times as much ! Miracle Mile , Navy Pier, TONS of great restaurants within walking distance as well as all downtown major attractions. Redline subway practically across the street . THIS PLACE ROCKS!

Had a great visit to Chicago July 11th-13th. Acme is a super hip, very clean hotel with exceptional customer service. Very hip bar located on the main floor draws an upscale crowd with their knowledgable bartenders and extensive stock of high end liquors.

PROS:

- Excellent, safe location in the heart of downtown:
Near many restaurants. Next to Eataly, supermarket (Trader Joes, Whole Foods, Jewel Osco). Walking distance to shops and sites (e.g., Mich Ave, Magnificient Mile, the River). Close to various CTA stations (Red Line, Green Line, Pink Line, etc.).

- Quiet:
Quiet rooms are available upon request. Sounds can be heard from the hallway, but not distractingly so. Likewise with street noise. Didn't hear a peep from our neighbors, which was amazing since I HATE THIN WALLS!

- Comfortable bed:
Not too firm, not too soft. Didn't wake up with a sore back!

- Convenient bakery located on the lobby level:
Open all day, Sells sandwiches, baked goods, etc. The staff is nice as well.

- Assortment of amenities:
FREE WIFI!, Lounge bar, Computers available for printing boarding passes or quick browsing, a small gym and sauna downstairs.

- Cordial front desk and help:
The housekeepers were really friendly (always greeting us with smiles). Karl was helpful. Front desk weren't over the top friendly (good, because I don't like small talk) but cordial. Whenever we called with any issues, they didn't necessarily go out of their way to apologize or come up with a solution. But they were nice enough.

CONS (or not for some):

*The room has a faint, musty / smoky smell.
Weird considering this is a smoke-free hotel and "new". It got better after airing out (yes, the windows open - not fully, but enough to let air in). Only bad thing is the window doesn't have a screen (just a pull down curtain screen).

*Rooms are a bit dark. It may have just been our room though. Even with all the lamps on, the room wasn't the brightest.

*This hotel caters to a specific crowd - probably younger. It's very funky. Like you're at a fun, hip, urban, trendy but kind of "emo" music cafe. The decor is very hipster, but ole school - green walls, orange chairs, wacky art, band posters. May not agree with travelers who prefer traditional, standard hotels.

*The bakery downstairs is convenient, but breakfast options are lacking. Would have liked some more classic offerings such as fruits, grains, etc. But they only had "heavier" foods such as danish, croissants. Not great for me since I don't have a sweet tooth.

Room Tip: Ask for quiet room. You won't get view, but it will be quiet.

Hi, howdoudool!

Thanks for your feedback. It's great to hear the aspects of the hotel that you really enjoyed, such as location, comfort of the room, and several of the amenities. I'm glad you found our front desk staff pleasant and helpful. However, our staff are expected to always provide positive solutions for guest issues; the fact that you noticed us lacking in this area will be addressed. Again, thanks for your review, and we hope to see you again next time you're in Chicago!

In addition to the retro look and cool tunes playing in the elevator the location is good and near a lot of restaurants. Even as an "older couple" we enjoyed the funky little touches in décor. Also LOVED the "knock & drop" coffee in the morning! A special shout out to Gabi for her assistance helping me print out my boarding pass. Would definitely recommend you visit.

Location is perfect. One block from the subway (red line) and close to the Mag Mile too.
The place has an awesome industrial, ultra modern, urban decor that is truly unique! We loved it!
Stayed for 3 nights on vacation and we will definitely be back. Accommodations were perfect. Service was good. Hotel bar is really cool.
Highly recommended boutique hotel!

Stayed here with my husband in May and loved the place. Very friendly, small but clean and functional room in a great location. Stopped into the great bar on the main floor one evening and really enjoyed it. Free carafe of coffee in the a.m. was a nice touch as was the convenience of the computers for printing our boarding passes. Really close to Eataly for gelato and espressos late in the evening and a quick walk to Mag Mile and public transit. Will come back for sure.

Room Tip: We looked out at another building but it was very quiet and I wasn't in my room for the view. I...

The hotel has a great location - close to Millennium Park and Mag Mile, pretty much walking distance to most of the sights you'd want to cover. The decor and overall feel of the hotel is very modern and contemporary. I got a room with two queen beds and found it to be very spacious and comfortable. The room was well appointed with all the essential needs covered - internet was included in my rate, so that was great. I'd recommend staying at ACME for a quick trip to Chicago. The bakery in the lobby is convenient and the Berkshire Room was popular on Saturday night.
