Staying at the Fairmont in Chicago on business, I had checked TripAdvisor for recommendations for where to eat nearby, and Wildberry was just around the corner, so I went for brunch after check-out on Sunday before an early evening flight out. The hostess told me it'd be a 45-60 minute wait at that time (12:30 pm) -- "not long." She directed me to the overflow waiting area in the lobby of the adjacent business building.
About 45 minutes later, my buzzer went off, and I was shown to a table amid crowds already seated and the crowds still waiting. Although I'd read on TripAdivsor about the light pancakes, I decided to go for the Berry Bliss Waffle. Piled high with a medley of berries, the waffle was drizzled with vanilla cream anglaise and blackberry coulis and dusted with powdered sugar. Really, really sweet, especially since I had also ordered a caramel latte -- thank goodness for the large glass of water! The berries were quite tasty, and the waffle was fine -- but I really needed protein to counterbalance the sugar rush I was feeling, so I also ordered some sausage links as a side. The meal was filling and tasty, but definitely aimed at someone with a serious sweet tooth. It would probably work best after one of the skillets or omelettes on the menu. I think a serving would energize a child well past his/her usual bedtime.
