My husband, 16-year-old daughter and I just returned from a 5-day stay in Chicago at the Sofitel Hotel and I'm already booking a return visit!

The service was uniformly charming and professional, from the warm and friendly valet parking staff to the cheerful housekeepers. Our spacious suite on the 16th floor (which we paid less for than a single room in Manhattan!) had a sensational view of the city. But it was the inside of the place that thrilled me the most. Very modern, but warm, with fantastic lighting and tasteful fabrics and furnishings.

And the bathroom! My daughter and I took turns bathing in the beautiful tub, which featured an array of lovely Roger & Gallet products. There is also a separate, enclosed shower stall and separate w.c.

The location is great for walking to the Architectural Cruise that departs from Wacker St., to the lakeshore, to Millenium Park and the Art Institute. In the other direction are chic boutiques and neighborhood grocery stores. Two restaurants within walking distance: Le Colonial (Vietnamese) and Carmine's (Italian w/sidewalk dining).

My husband hosted a business meeting one morning which required some additional audio video equipment. It was brought to the room immediately and at no extra charge.

One slight snag: We moved some minibar items out of the refrigerator to replace with our own yogurt, fruit, etc. We were charged for all the items we'd removed for each day of our stay. The desk promptly corrected our bill and told us that next time, they'd be happy to send up a fridge for us.

I chose this hotel based on location and the Trip Advisor reviews I'd read.
What a successful choice. Both my daughter and I agree that this is the most pleasant hotel we have ever stayed in. And take into account that we have stayed in 5 star+ hotels the world over.

For us the hotel is a perfect combination of understated luxury, excellent service, superb food and outstanding location. We especially enjoyed being on a quiet street that's only one block from both the Magnificent mile and Rush street night life.

We both look forward to returning to the hotel and to Chicago as soon as possible.

My recent stay at the Sofitel in Chicago for business was excellent. Nice room, terrific staff and a great location. Laundry comes back with ribbons and special wrapping. Restaurant had delicious food and great service and the LeBar was very comfortable. Class act. Only recommendation would be to order up your car from the valet a 1/2 hour before you need it. Otherwise I will be back for sure.

Booked this hotel because had heard so much about it. We called before we left to see if the room was ready & they assured us it was...upon arrival, however, we were told it would be at least an hour before the room was clean. They were not nice about it and their tone was not what we expected from an expensive hotel that promotes customer service. We asked if they would buy us a drink at the bar and suddenly a room opened up!

The room was very nice & the bathroom was beautiful but not an oversized tub as we were told. The room was very warm and although we kept the air blowing on high and the temperature at 50, it never got cool. Finally, they came to look at it, changed the filter which was filthy, and assured us it would cool down. It did cool a bit but never got cold.

When we checked out, they did credit us $30 a night because of the air conditioning problem. While we appreciated that, it did not make up for the rudeness we encountered when we arrived.

All in all, we had a great time but were disappointed in the lack of service for such an upscale hotel.

This is our third trip to Chicago in less than a year. All pleasure, no business. This time around we chose to stay at the Sofitel mainly based on the reviews from this site and the photos of the room. We were not disappointed. Our room was not ready when we arrived so we followed a reviewer's suggestion and walked over to Tempo restaurant for breakfast. The wait was not long and we both enjoyed our food. After walking around a bit, we returned to the hotel and found that the room was ready. I asked for a room on a high level and was granted such. The room was very nice, a little on the small side but I did like the bathroom. There was even a live plant inside. How nice. The toiletry items were very nice, unfortunately the brand name escapes me. We found the bed to be comfortable but so far my vote goes for the beds at LeMeridien as the most comfortable bed I've slept in while in Chicago. We received turn down service every night. The two bottles of Evian water(in lieu of chocolates) is a nice touch. Although the lobby and bar area were pretty noisy at night, ( I'm thinking the bar here is the hippest place to hang out - at the moment) we didn't mind at all. The best time for us to visit the bar was on our way to dinner. We had dinner at Gibson's, Ditka's, and a couple other places I can't remember. No complaints about the food or service in any of the restaurants. Breakfast at the Sofitel restaurant was very good. All of the employees that we came across were pleasant and helpful. Just one more thing, this hotel really is in a great location . I can't wait to return.
