My husband, 16-year-old daughter and I just returned from a 5-day stay in Chicago at the Sofitel Hotel and I'm already booking a return visit!
The service was uniformly charming and professional, from the warm and friendly valet parking staff to the cheerful housekeepers. Our spacious suite on the 16th floor (which we paid less for than a single room in Manhattan!) had a sensational view of the city. But it was the inside of the place that thrilled me the most. Very modern, but warm, with fantastic lighting and tasteful fabrics and furnishings.
And the bathroom! My daughter and I took turns bathing in the beautiful tub, which featured an array of lovely Roger & Gallet products. There is also a separate, enclosed shower stall and separate w.c.
The location is great for walking to the Architectural Cruise that departs from Wacker St., to the lakeshore, to Millenium Park and the Art Institute. In the other direction are chic boutiques and neighborhood grocery stores. Two restaurants within walking distance: Le Colonial (Vietnamese) and Carmine's (Italian w/sidewalk dining).
My husband hosted a business meeting one morning which required some additional audio video equipment. It was brought to the room immediately and at no extra charge.
One slight snag: We moved some minibar items out of the refrigerator to replace with our own yogurt, fruit, etc. We were charged for all the items we'd removed for each day of our stay. The desk promptly corrected our bill and told us that next time, they'd be happy to send up a fridge for us.
