“Room with a great view”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed yesterday NEW

My wife and I stayed for one night on the 16th of April on our way to visit my son in Ohio. We usually stay at the two downtown Westins when in Chicago but my other son said he had gotten engaged at the W and it was wonderful. Anyway, from the moment we arrived until we left, the staff made us feel welcome and appreciated! They made everything easy from check in to check out. As an example, we went down for an excellent breakfast and stopped by the Starwood desk to ask about paying for our parking. We were told that it was on our bill and that she would have the car brought around and a bellman to our room. The bellman was there before we were and the car was waiting for us at the door! This is not our usual experience! My only suggestion would be to have coffee makers in the room. The view of the Lake was excellent. Try and get a high floor.

Newly remodeled and decorated. We had a room on the 32nd floor and facing the lake. The view was worth it alone. Not to mention how cool the decor in the rooms and lighting in the hallways. Location was perfect I thought. Could walk just about anywhere. We parked in the garage next to the hotel.

Spent 4 days in Chicago the first week of April, loved our stay at the W Lakeshore! Rooms were very nice, property was welcoming! Just what you'd expect from a W!! Close to everything!! Everyone at the hotel was very friendly and accommodating!! Would definitely recommend and stay here again!! Don't usually travel to a trendy hotel with kids but even the 9 year old that came with us loved it!! Says a lot about the hotel and staff!!

This hotel is beautiful, with great views and a stylish room. The lobby is loud but the staff are friendly and always helpful. Needed a pedicure and the local spa was booked. Ramone recommended polish and pour. It was exactly what we were looking for! I was desperate for a good coffee and he sent to me a local cafe with amazing lattes. Seek out Ramone!

Bar drinks are great. Bar food just ok. The meatballs were a bit dry and the calamari a little bland. But the lobby is still a great place to hang out.

My fiance booked our stay here for our trip to Chicago (my first and defiantly not last). I must say, staff was very friendly and knowledgeable (Ramone, the concierge was especially amazing). Our view of Lake Michigan and Navy Pier was out of this world!! I suggest upgrading to a spectacular room with that view. Worth it!!!! Food and drinks were reasonably priced for the W and delish. Oh not to forget that the beds are sooooo comfy. Great stay in Chi-town.

Room Tip: Higher rooms facing Lake Michigan and Navy Pier are amazing!

hotel was a little glamorus for what we intended location was good they offer valet parking only - so you can't use garage even if you stay a night - hotel is not meant for kids -- there is no vending machines or much of anything for the younger ones to do other than swim - pool was ok water temp a little chilly --

Room Tip: none available

I need to start by sharing a couple of background points for context:
- We had spent the week touring colleges, staying at 5 different hotels in 5 different states in 5 days. All those hotels were lower end, so our stop at the W was a "reward" to ourselves before heading home...and it was a a very different environment!
- My wife and I had last stayed in this building over 20 years ago when it used to be a Days Inn. To say that they have upgraded the place doesn't even begin to describe it!
We are frequent visitors to Chicago and like to try different hotels on each visit. The location of this hotel is outstanding. It's just a quick walk to pretty anything you'd want to get to in the core downtown area.
From the moment we arrived, everyone on the staff was great...the valet, the bellman, the front desk - all very friendly and very professional.
When we arrived in the room we were in awe...we loved the design and we just went around and tried to take it all in. We also had a lake view which is definitely worth the extra couple of bucks.
The gym and pool were very nice - what you would expect from a hotel of this level.
Just a couple of minor negatives that kept this from an excellent rating:
- The music in the lobby was excessively loud. I know there was a whole bar scene going on, but even if you were nowhere near the bar, you couldn't avoid it.
- $64 per day for parking is ridiculous. I expect to pay a lot to park in Chicago but this was just excessive.
- For the price of this room, paying $15 per day for internet access is a joke. Hotel rooms that cost 1/3 of the price of this one give it to you for free!
