“Every Year Is Wonderful”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 1, 2012

I decided to propose to my girlfriend February 29th, 2008. I started looking for a hotel that would be romantic and close to the heart of the city. Viola! I found the Conrad, when we arrived they had everything that I requested and the room was great. Flat panel TV, Bose surround sound, deep tub and separate shower. The staff was extremely helpful and had answers to all of my questions. I proposed and she said yes, fast forward to 2012. My wife and I have visited the Conrad every February since 2008 and they never disappoint. Reserve and a room and enjoy yourself.

PS. We've already made reservations for our 2013 visit.

I stayed here recently for a weekend get-away. Despite booking a regular room, I was upgraded to one of the bigger suites (HH Diamond status helped - don't expect it to happen). The room had a nice view of Michigan Avenue from its many large windows.

They did an excellent job of stocking the room with water bottles and toiletries (mouthwash, q-tips, even floss). I really liked having a Keurig in the room for coffee and tea. The bathroom was large in this particular suite with both a shower and a soaking tub.

At night there was very slight street noise from cars at times, but otherwise it was perfectly silent. No noise at all from the heater. We were woken twice by firetrucks in the morning, but not much the hotel can do about that. It comes with staying right on Michigan Avenue.

Breakfast was included for diamond members. It was the best hhonors breakfast I've had yet.

The location can't be beat. Right on Michigan Ave, easy walk to Millenium Park, and only a two minute walk to a red line stop. Finding the entrance from Michigan Ave is a little tricky. That part of chicago is multi-level in a way. The entrance is tucked below the higher streets so it isn't the most glamorous entrance.

Overall we were thrilled with our stay.

Background: My friend and I scored 2 FREE night's stay to any Hilton hotel when we joined a Twitter contest in San Francisco. I was part of the first 75 people to line up by 430pm on a September 2011 day and got a voucher for a FREE hotel stay! We wanted to go with Waldorf Astoria but it is far away from Downtown Chicago, so we opted for the CONRAD. I've never stayed in a fancy hotel such as this so, our expectations were really high.

Before we booked anything, we've been communicating weeks before with management via e-mail. We made sure our vouchers would be honored and that we can upgrade and pay the difference. When we checked in at 6am (we flew red eye), we were just hoping to leave our luggage in the hotel and be given our promised upgrade to an executive suite. This is when we encountered a bit of difficulty with Ron at the front desk. There were 2 men at the check-in counter. The first man said that the upgrade would be honored. Then, Ron stepped in and said that it is NOT available given the type of payment we had and that because it is a busy weekend (we were there over President's Day Weekend), the room is (suddenly?) not available. We reminded him of the e-mail exchange with another manager and he said that he'd have to speak with them since maybe that person was misinformed. We then handed over our vouchers and he starts asking why our names aren't on the vouchers. This is when I started getting internally angry since he was making it very difficult for us despite the previous communications with management. We had to remind him of how promo works and that Hilton gave out these vouchers randomly. I started taking down notes such as what his name was and all the things he was saying.

I think this is when Ron realized that he needs to fix things quickly because you do NOT want a BAD review or upset guests.

With that said -- Ron made it up to my friends and I BIG TIME. As he should because, we have evidence of e-mail exchages and Twitter re-tweets to score this voucher. As such, we were treated like Royalty eventually.

The first night was a Standard Room with 2 beds and a free of chage roll away bed. We were given tons of pillows and 5 free drink tickets which cost around $15 each. The next day, we were finally upgraded to an executive suite like we've been promised for free. The suite had a queen size bed and a bath tub. Both rooms had great views of the other buildings. I love that you can order endless bottled water and can request a Keurig coffee maker.

The location was perfect -- within walking distance of the major sites. We didn't even get to ride the Metro since cabs were fairly reasonable when we split it amongst us.

All in all, I would recommend this hotel despite the hassle at the beginning. I would however suggest that management be more accurate with giving out information so as not to upset guests.

Thanks for everything, Conrad Hotel!! Best FREE hotel stay I've ever had.

We enjoyed a special birthday/anniversary weekend here at the Conrad and our experience was exceptional. The staff provided attention to detail with an eye on service and our room was comfortable, roomy and bright. The hotel location is positioned well to take easy advantage of the best Chicago has to offer. Will definately stay again and recommend to anyone looking to enjoy a great downtown experience.

Room Tip: Although our suite was directly next to the workout room, it was exceptionally quiet. It was perfec...

My husband & I stayed Feb 24th - 26th at the Conrad. We booked on hotwire for a great rate. The hotel was closed to everything & with the cold Chicago weather, this was great!!

Check in was our only problem. My husband asked the man at the front desk about their policy regarding credit cards (wanted to see if they placed a hold up front or waited to charge at checkout) and the man became very rude for some reason. We were a bit shocked at this & asked to speak to the manager. This suddenly stopped the rude behavior & he was once again very pleasant.

Our room was clean, comfortable, and spacious. The view was horrible, however...we were looking right in to an office building! We just closed the drapes, and since we weren't there to see the view from our hotel room it really didn't matter! If it does matter to you, specify that you would like to be facing Grand, rather than Illinois. It was very quite in on our floor. (Room 1118) Saturday night there were some young ladies that were running the halls, but this was quickly taken care of & not the fault of the hotel.

We enjoy the coffee & hot chocolate in the lobby. The shopping mall connected to the hotel was very nice & made getting to Michigan Ave a little warmer!! Shopping on Michigan and State are very close, and it was a nice walk despite the cold.

The cleaning staff was very nice, always greeted us when we passed them in the hallway. The rooms were kept tidy, and well stocked with small items like mouthwash, cotton swabs, toothbrush in addition to the standard soap & shampoo. The room service menu looked decent, although we dined outside the hotel for each meal.

Check out was easy & fast. Be prepared to pay $44 a day for parking or $53 for valet parking. It's not a surprise if you have been to Chicago, but anyone who hasn't should know that you will be paying to park...anywhere!!

All in all we had a nice weekend stay at the Conrad. With the exception of the man at the front desk at 6pm on Friday the 24th, it was a lovely stay. We will return & would recommend to anyone.

Room Tip: Request a room that faces Grand Ave for a better view, the higher the better. You may be faced with...

I love this hotel. I feel pampered and relaxed every time I stay here. The bathrooms and beds are grand. I live the bathroom amenities and the slippers. The tub is perfect. And the health club is great.

We stayed at the Conrad for one night in Feb. 2012. We arrived well before check in (around noon) and our room was ready for us. It appeared to have been recently renovated, and had tasteful and elegant furnishings. There were extra touches everywhere: robes and slippers to wear, a bose stereo system, turndown service, and even a complimentary "pillow menu" where you could order different kids of aromatherapy pillows, or pillows for special needs such as allergies, etc. The bed was extremely comfortable. The bathroom was also very nice with separate shower and tub areas, and a separate room for the toilet. Our room was also spotlessly clean, and service was very prompt when we requested our turn down. We had drinks in the hotel bar which were a little pricey (as expected) but delicious. The location could not have been more perfect for our purposes: we had tons of dining and shopping options right on our doorstep. We had taken the train into the city, so we did not use any of the parking options nearby. We booked through an internet site where we didn't know which hotel we would get until after purchasing, so the value for the price we paid was excellent. I definitely hope to be back to the Conrad in the near future! It was great!

Room Tip: Our room on the 9th floor faced North, and we did not have any issues with street noise or noise fro...
