“Dinner with Friends”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 14, 2013

This resturant was about a mile from the Palmer Hotel and was recommended to us by a Friend. What stated out as a reservation for six somehow became a reservation for 10. The owner gracious enough to accomandate all of us in a section to the side of the main area. The resturant itself is small with a nice atmosphere so to accomadate a table of 10 was great. Enjoyed some wonder French Onion soup & escargot in a garlic sauce to start. The menu was outstanding and we had the special of Beef Stroganoff with homemade noodles and sauce. Service was excellent given the number of people and the staff was wonderful. We will definately dine there again.

“Looking for real French cuisine”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 24, 2013

was looking for a great cup of french onion soup and found it! stopped in before the dinner crowd as the place was pretty empty. and had one of the best bowls of french onion soup I have ever had. the server even let my son go into the kitchen and get his own bowl of soup. Did not stay for dinner but I would assume that this would be an awesome place for a romantic dinner and good meal, but get the soup for sure

“Great place off the beaten path”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 14, 2013

This was our second visit to Le Petit Paris. The first visit was wonderful and this was even better. The restaurant is about 3 blocks east of Michigan Avenue on Chestnut, in the lobby of an apartment building, so it is pretty hidden. But it is well worth getting off Michigan Avenue to find it..

We booked a table for 7 PM on a Saturday and when we arrived it was nearly full (it is a small place so reservations are needed. On a Saturday, book a few weeks in advance). Their menu has a good selection of dishes at prices that are quite reasonable for a restaurant of this quality in downtown Chicago. We had the crab cake as a starter. It was large, light and moist on the inside and crispy on the outside. It came with an aioli sauce and a garnish.

For main courses we had steak frites and calves liver, and shared cauliflower gratinee as a side dish. The steak was among the best steak frites we've ever had, perfectly cooked and served with a mountain of frites. The liver was also cooked perfectly and topped with smoked bacon, sautéed onions and a very nice port wine sauce. The cauliflower was a good-sized portion, enough for two people, was served piping hot and came in a tasty sauce. For desert, we had chocolate raspberry mousse cake. It was quite good and very reasonably priced.

Although we weren't affected by it, we were a bit surprised that the restaurant was out of a few menu items, so if you go there for a particular menu item it might be worth a call to confirm that they are serving it that day.

“Worth a visit”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 6, 2013

Dining here is a generally good experience. The restaurant is small and cozy. located in a quiet residential neighborhood near the north end of the Magnificent Mile. Service is generally excellent. The owner/chef can be charming.

The food offerings are reasonably priced French bistro fare. Preparations are normally very good but, sometimes, in the same meal, one can have a very good item and one that is not so good, e.g. a very good soup followed by an over- salted entree.

Wish there was a category in between "very good", not always deserved here and, "average" which does a disservice to the overall experience, value and, often, very good fare.

Off the beaten path;try it as an alternative to much higher priced area restaurants

“Fantastic French Food!!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 16, 2013

We found this restaurant on Tripadvisor and went there for a family graduation celebration dinner. The owner/chef was amazing. He discussed the menu with us fully, made helpful suggestions on wine pairings, and produced a fabulous meal.

We lived in Europe and know good French food when we taste it. This was the real thing. The hangar steak with frites - wonderful sauce. The coq au vin two ways - summer and winter - succulent and delicious. The fish - delicate. The dessert selection included Baked Alaska (fab) apple tart a la mode (super) and a cheese tray so large we could not finish it (a first). The Bordeau wine was lovely. The cost was very reasonable for such a feast.

I can not recommend this place highly enough. It is not a tourist destination - its a Gold Coast secret. Do yourself a favor and try it.
