“Absolutely the best food tour in the city”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 18, 2011

I had out of town guests who wanted to try several varieties of Pizza while in Chicago. I was recommended this tour by a friend who assured me that I would not be disappointed. He was so correct! Our guide was friendly and very gracious. As an added bonus the guide provided information of the history and architecture of many of the buildings as we traveled to different locations. In total we tried 5 different pizza places, thin, deep dish, stuffed, and brick oven. I was so impressed, and being from Chicago and have eaten pizza all over town, that is not easy to do as, I consider pizza a food group in and of itself. I recommend this tour to Chicago natives as well as out of visitors. Bring your appetite the pizza is wonderful.

“Fun way to spend the afternoon.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 13, 2010

Since this was our first trip to Chicago, we wanted to try a couple of pizza places. After reading a ton of reviews, we couldn't decide on which ones to try since it looked like there were at least a half dozen places that we wanted to try. Gino's East, Pizzeria Uno and Giordano's were three on that list but decided that with the limited time we had, we could only hit one or two of them. After doing some more research we found Second City Pizza Tours. What better way to try pizza in Chicago than trying a slice at five pizzerias? They took us to the three mentioned above as well as thin crust pizzerias La Madia and Quartino.

We met in front of Giordano's at 11:30 AM and quickly were greeted by the tour guide. She gave us a little overview of the tour and then some history of the pizzeria. She went in and quickly came back out with a stuffed cheese pizza. We then proceeded to La Madia for a Tellagio cheese and roasted grapes thin crust (amazing), Gino's East for deep dish Cheese or sausage pizza, Quartino with a picked veggie or Margherita thin crust and finished at Pizzeria Uno with a deep dish pizza with pesto which I can't remember the other toppings. The tour ended at just before 2:00.

For our tastes, if we had tried going to a deep dish pizza place, we probably would have been disappointed. We ended up liking the stuffed from Giordano's and thin crust La Madia the most. Since all the deep dish and stuffed pizzas are preordered, we didn't have to wait for the pizzas and just walked in and the pizzas were served within minutes of arriving. This was a walking tour and all pizzerias are quite close together so it was a pleasant stroll in between slices. This tour was definitely one of the highlights of our trip and will definitely recommend it to all of our friends.
