“We'll be back!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 26, 2010

Great, new, clean hotel with a staff that knows how to take care of the guests. Try the pork belly flat bread at the restaurant and the scrambled eggs with veggies for room service in the morning. The location is perfect for exploring the delights of the city. The bed and linens ultra comfortable. If you're lucky enough to score a one bedroom suite enjoy the Figi soaking tub big enough for two Samarii warriors!!! The young trendy staff is beautiful & hip! I'm a very troubled sleeper and did pretty well here on the 10th floor.

Was in Chicago the weekend of Sept 17-19, 2010 to see the city and stayed at the Palomar. It's only been open for a few months so everything is still new and shiny. Front desk staff were helpful. The 5-6pm wine hour is a great way to meet fellow guests and sample new wines. Another great Kimpton hotel in a convenient location. Grab breakfast a block away at Eatt diner where the portions are HUGE.

after staying at the Hotel Solamar in San Diego by fluke, I met a young staff person who recommended the Palomar. She said she works for the Kimpton people and was sold on the product. I've stayed at the Hilton Garden Inn across the street and the Omni a few blocks away. This place rates up there if not better than the Omni. The building is very well built. The fitness center was roomy and bright with newer machines. The young lady who checked me in did not give me a honor bar key and I went back to the desk and asked if I had my In Touch membership on file and it was. You get $10 worth of honor bar usage during your stay. I never knew about this service until meeting that young lady at the Solamar. Red Line at the corner and if you were to go to Wrigley, walk to Dearborn and take the 22 Clark bus instead of the L, you see much more of the city. Supermarket half a block away, great great location and facility.

Starting from the front door to the hotel room all employees were friendly, helpful, and quick to service their guests. The doormen (Cullen and Darren) were well dressed with their sharp hats and ready to lend a helping hand as soon as we pulled up. The bellmen (James and James) knew our names and spoke everytime we came in contact with them. Ashley, Jason, Mark, and Sahara at the front desk always gave a friendly smile as we passed the front desk and were very pleasant when they answered the phone. If we were in need of anytime they made sure it was brought to our room immediately. Management of the hotel (Larry, Andrew, Amanda) were very personable and were willing to go the extra mile if necessary for their guests. The hotel restaurant was well decorated and the food was delicious. Thumbs up to the chef!! The management staff of the restaurant was wonderful and should be complimented on their phenomenal customer service skills. They engaged in conversation with us as we ate and made sure everything was to our liking.

We stayed at the Hotel Palomar for 11 nights whilst we explored Chicago and around. The Hotel is in a convenient spot on State and Illinois street. At the minute, State St is closed Southbound outside the hotel so if you are arriving by GPS bare the local diversion in mind. For metro users is right on Grand and Red – In summer there is a free trolley bus that passes the side of the hotel down to the Navy Pier for all its attractions.

On arriving, its not apparent that the car Valet is on State Street as you can see the hotel approaching down Illinois and that you drive under the porch- not just sit on the road. Us English people may not be used to it! For those bits and bobs there is a huge supermarket on the next block open till 11 every night- including Sunday.

The room was great, large king bed, flat screen TV, desk, free internet if you become a friend of Kimpton before you go and once there you can put all your devices on like your i phone and laptop. People have mentioned the bathroom door- bit of an issue if one of you is “using the facilities” when the maid comes in for turndown service- great though that they fill your ice bucket. The light above the the room entrance flickered even when turned off- not apparent by day, but by night – like sleeping in a lighthouse, so after the first night we had to get them to remove the bulb. It’s a common problem in the rooms and a problem with the wiring

The restaurant, Sable is good, good food for sharing.

The staff are friendly, special mention to David on valet who was chatty and knowledgeable about the city- good with advice and directions as was the stunningly handsome Patrick, always there with a smile to greet you and knowledge of the local facilities.

There are the usual Kimpton things, wine at 5 hosted by staff , coffee at breakfast- although I have to say the coffee was grainy and not too nice!

The hotel holds weddings and events and the only negative really was the at weekend when the hotel was really busy and getting the car out of valet took 30 minutes standing about despite phoning down 10 mins ahead- the message hadn’t got through to the guys at the valet- not enough staff! The valet is also $46 a day, so budget for that or use the parking lot opposite .

Overall- a great stay and I would use it again.

One of the nicest hotels we've ever visited, from the professionalism of the bellhops, service desk, all the way to the cleanliness, elegance, and stylish design of the elevators, floors, and rooms. Great value in downtown Chicago. We'll be checking out the other U.S. Kimpton hotels based on the wonderful experience at this one. Our 13-year and 11-year olds loved it, too!
