“Simply Fabulous”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 16, 2013

Not much to say. The WA in Chicago is just simply a great hotel. We loved that it is understated to the extent it does not have a huge ornate lobby or a bustling bar scene. If you're looking for old-fashioned service, spacious and luxurious rooms and pampering without intrusion, stay here. Everyone is so accommodating and helpful, you feel special from the moment you walk in the door. Spa is tremendous, and you must have a cocktail at the quaint bar. Timeless right down to the bartenders constantly polishing glasses. Have stayed at many fine hotels, and the WA is at the top of my list. There are so many good hotels in Chicago, it is often hard to choose one when you're looking for quality. It's nice to know we don't need to do any research for our next trip.

beautiful hotel close in a great location. Rooms and spa are impecable. The bathrooms in all the rooms are grand and wall to wall marble. Love the tv behind the mirrors in the bathroom. Just wall-to-wall luxury.

Staff made us feel special and welcome from start to finish. We needn't lift a finger and we had a wonderful anniversary trip because of it. Didn't make it to the spa; next time! The bed was absolute heaven! That is normally a sticking point with me, and we slept in just to spend a little more time in the wonderful bed. Only one complaint: there is such a thing as too much water pressure, and room 707's shower head is guilty of it. We will be back. Can't wait!

We have stayed in many hotels over the years in Chicago over the last several years, and this is an exceptional place to stay with a great staff! Conveniently located a couple blocks off Michigan Avenue. We will gladly go back next time we are in Chicago.

Just returned from a five night stay, which was a five star experience from start to finish.
From the moment we pulled up in our car the staff could not do enough for us, and made us feel special.
We stayed in a luxury suite, on the 24th Floor - which was more like an apartment than a hotel room. We could quite happily have moved in for good.
We loved having the balcony, if the weather had been better we would have used it more.
The concierge was very helpful, and the use of the town car was a luxurious bonus.
The location was ideal, as more of a residential feel with great local restaurants and bars - but still within easy reach of Michigan Avenue.
Oak Street beach is a must in good weather, and is only 10 minutes walk away. And for $10 you can hire a sunbed for the whole day.
Found the non-tipping policy a bit hard to get use to, but after talking to the concierge he explained that the owner preferred to pay his staff slightly higher rates to compensate - making his guests stay less of a worry. This was nice to know, as then showed that the service was not false just for tips - but was genuine. We'd like to mention specifically Jonathan, who we found to be very helpful and welcoming.
It is an amazing hotel, and would recommend this to anybody staying in Chicago. If all their Hotels are the same as this, then we would definitely stay at them.
Thank you for a great stay.

Dear TBnRB,

Thank you so much for taking the time to post your review of your recent stay with us on TripAdvisor. It gives me great pleasure to read that you felt right at home in one of our Luxury Suites. It is unfortunate that the weather wasn’t pleasant enough for you to enjoy its balcony as much as you could have. I am also delighted to read that you enjoyed the different hotel amenities, especially the house car and our Concierge services. Thank you for your kind remarks with regard to our service team, especially Jonathan. I will proudly share your gracious comments with the rest of the staff as comments like yours are an inspiration to our continuous pursuit of excellence in everything we do. We will look forward to welcoming you and your travel companion back, hopefully in the not far future.

Sincerely,

A luxurious suite & smiling reception but follow through of service was disappointing for such a highly rated and expensive hotel. When asked how we liked our room I commented truthfully that is was very dark - dim lighting is great for evenings but mornings and daytime I prefer a well lit room with natural light. Even with the curtains back (to reveal an ugly carpark and back of a brick building), it was still dark. As we were staying 6 nights, the chap at reception (whose name I know but wont reveal here) said he'd try to move us - never heard from him again. We also asked him for a kettle and mugs for my herbal teas - he also didn't deliver, but room service were able to supply that evening within 10 mins. Don't know how they get their rating but it fell below our expectations - certainly a luxurious room but not the service.

My husband and I visited Chicago for our 10 year anniversary and had the pleasure of staying at the Waldorf Astoria. Wonderful service, beautiful room with lovely design. The bar was a great spot for a afternoon or evening cocktail and the staff are very pleasant, serving these amazing homemade potato chips that are so tasty! The restaurant serves delicious breakfast and brunch also. I loved the eggs Benedict and champagne cocktails! The spa is fabulous, with a lap pool and jacuzzi tub that was wonderful after our massages! Wouldn't expect any less at the Waldorf Astoria!
