Owner description: The largest science museum in the Western Hemisphere! Housed in the only remaining building from the 1893 World’s Fair, MSI is a Chicago must-see. You’ll experience 14 acres of hands-on exhibits and have the chance to stand before a 40-foot tornado; climb aboard a World War II German submarine; take a run in a human-sized hamster wheel; descend into an Illinois coal mine; tour a fully functioning eco-friendly home; board a 727 hanging from the ceiling; transmit your pulse to a 13-foot, 3-D beating heart; and much more! MSI is not a place where you walk around quietly and observe. No way! You get involved in the fun—and learn—by doing. Just a few miles from downtown with convenient underground parking.

“Best Museum For Kids”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 27, 2013

The Museum of Science and Industry was one of the highlights of our recent trip to Chicago. My eight year old loved the museum because of all the different exhibits and activities. The Museum is very large and would be hard to cover everything even in a full day. There is definitely no shortage of things to do. We were there almost 4 hours and there were plenty of things we weren't able to do. My only complaint is that they advertise these cool exhibits like their Disney vintage collection going on right now, but those exhibits aren't included in your base ticket fee. They have several of these extra exhibits and each one costs an additional $9/adult, $7/child and so for each additional exhibit, we would have to pay out an additional $25 if we wanted to see them. I feel like those fees are overpriced. If it was only $3-$4 extra, we would probably do them but not at an additional $25. Other than that, the museum is fantastic

“Great way to spend a day”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 27, 2013

This is always interesting place. New exhibits and the old ones you never tire of seeing. At this time of year (Christmas) "Christmas around the world" is a must see. Plenty of parking right on site. Great place for all ages - young and old.

“Museum is worth visiting but the guidance is very poor”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 26, 2013

We visited from England and turned up to no information upon purchasing our tickets. When we got to the ticket guy after waiting a while we were handed a leaflet and told we needed to pick the attractions that we wanted to see right now. We had not been told of this and while we were stood waiting in the queue we could have been looking over this information and deciding. As a result our decision was rushed and retrospectively we would have chosen different options. The museum shut at 4pm which seemed a little early and the exhibitions weren't that easy to locate. There is no student discount which is a shame being a museum. The Walt Disney exhibition was great but make sure you had a whole day to explore.

“Go early, go often”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 25, 2013 via mobile

We are members of this museum but do not go nearly as often as we should.
There are a wide range of exhibits and activities. Our 2 favourite are the Zephyr train and the WW2 submarine.
We love the temporary exhibits and returned to see the ecologically built "green house" several times.
Good for all ages, from young kids to corporate functions ( attended a great cocktail reception near the submarine).
Highly recommended.
