“Pig & Oysters!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 18, 2012

Publican exceeded my expectations. I've been hesitating to dine here for a while since I'm not a huge fan of communal dining. My experience was definitely bolstered by the fact that we (group of 3) were seated at one of the booth-style tables along the wall. Our fantastic server, Rebekah, guided us through the menu and helped us make selections that hit all the right notes.

This place is definitely known for their meat and they do it well. We thoroughly enjoyed the sucking pig, duck confit, and pork rillette. We were pleasantly surprised by the quality of other items too, such as the chef's selection of oysters and desserts. Though we usually order wine when we eat out, we thoroughly enjoyed the beer selection and our server made excellent choices in recommending the pairings.

Would definitely recommend!

“Great food and Atmosphere”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 13, 2012

Was in Chicago for a wedding and stopped by between the ceremony and the reception. Had the steamed clams and a cheese appetizer along with a very tasty IPA. Sat outside which wasn't too bad since the heat wave had cooled a bit.

Met some friends on the way out who were at the stand up tables next to the bar so a good excuse to have another tasty IPA.

This one is on my must visit again on a return trip

“Delicious!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 12, 2012

My wife and I went here for Saturday brunch. It was crowded, but not too packed. The staff was great as were our food and drinks. You must get the side of bacon. Some of the best I have had. It pulls apart like pulled pork. Almost every dish has some sort of pig in it and it was really really good. Bloodies are strong and come with a chaser of beer, which is always fun. Can't wait to go back!

“Reservation a must.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 6, 2012

Interesting menu and fun beer selections. The seating can be challenging so if you can stand, do so at the tall tables in the bar. The booths are funky with a door to fence your group in.

“Calm environment, stellar service.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 4, 2012

Enjoyed dinner at The Publican. Would love to go back again next time I am in Chicago. Most things about it were complete perfection. Food was outstanding. Lots of beers offered. Nice environment. The positive reputation of Publican has made it kind of scene-y for people not there for the cuisine but more the status of eating at such an establishment... so, I recommend coming here on a weeknight for the regular and business crowd (which is more my speed).
