I'm from Chicago but moved to Colorado 15 years ago. I had a quick weekend trip back home, arriving at O'Hare late at night and leaving two mornings later. For very short trips to Chicago, the O'Hare Hilton is fine. Rooms were very average and are quite clean. The robotic staff was certainly not overly accommodating. I felt more "processed" than welcomed while checking-in. Of course there were 8 people in front of my and 6 behined, waiting to be checked in, so that helps explain the lack of any "personal touch" to some degree.
One aspect I really disliked about the rooms was the climate control. Temp is controlled by a thermostat on the wall, but once your desired temp is reached, the fan turns off, leaving the room feeling very stuffy. There was no way to set the thermostat to "fan" so the air could be circulated. The windows aren't designed to open either, so the options I had were to freeze by setting the a/c so low that the fan kept running (I went as low as 67) or try to ignore the suffocating atmosphere.
For those of you who aren't familiar with Chicago, know O'Hare Airport is quite far from downtown and other major attractions. There are also no restaurants anywhere nearby except an overly priced, hotel restaurant in the lobby. Yes there is convenient mass transit downtown from O'Hare via train however, the ride is lengthy. My personal preference when I have a longer visit back home is to take the train from Midway or O'Hare downtown and stay there for a few days. If you're visiting to have the "Chicago-experience," this hotel could be pretty inconvenient. If however, you're looking for a clean, easily accessible place to lay your head near the airport, the Hilton O'Hare is a decent choice.
