“Right for the price and service”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 8, 2012

My husband and I enjoyed our stay. It was a quick birthday weekend. Our "loft" room was nice. Staff were nice. I would suggest the best time to visit would be warm weather so that you can enjoy the roof. Location, location, location is great.
A little strange when trying to enter the hotel in a car, but staff seem to manage it well.
Food was good, but the menu was a bit limited.
Staff greet you each time you exit and reentered, threw us off guard for a moment than we began to expect it (-:

“Location can't be beat”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 7, 2012

You certainly can't beat the location of this hotel. A few steps off Michigan Avenue it is centrally located for shopping and other activites. I found the staff helpful and courteous and the rooms clean and sufficent. The bathroom tiles/tub are dated and somewhat tired in appearance; it was formerly the Affinia Chicago and they have done some cosmetic changes but have not done a complete overhaul of the rooms. A room on the upper floors is desirable as the Children's hospital is right next door and the constant sound of traffic and ambulance noise can be an intrusion. Valet parking is pricey as is the case for all urban hotels these days. Annoying that you can't find the parking rate online and have to call and ask. We had a problem with our car and the staff bent over backwards to work with us. Well trained in customer relations! I would recommend this hotel if your focus is on a comfortable experience and want to spent your money on good food, entertainment, shopping and other delights.

Dear Hillary1522,

Thanks for taking time to post your review of MileNorth. I'm thrilled that you enjoyed your stay with us. You are correct, the noise can be a challenge which is why we have begun a project to add a 2nd pane of glass to the windows around the entire hotel and that will help to cut the noice down significantly. The cost for parking downtown in general is high. Our cost for valet is competitive with other hotels in the area but to save a little money on your next visit, there is self-parking across the street for $42/day, however, they do not offer in and out privileges as you will receive by parking with the valet at MileNorth.

Please let us know if we can assist you on a return trip to Chicago and again, your comments are valued. Happy Holidays!

Kind regards,
Heidi Edinger, CMP, CASE

“Very accomodating”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 5, 2012

This is a great hotel. The staff are very polite, friendly, and accomodating. They would greet us each time we left the hotel or returned for the day. The housekeepers would even say hello or good morning as we passed by in the hallway. The bellmen were also very friendly and gladly provided us directions.
The rooms are a nice size with contemporary decor. I particularily liked the little vanity area in the bathroom. There was plenty of hot water and nice water pressure in the shower. Complementary small bottles of shampoo, conditioner, and lotion were provided. The room was equipped with an iron, hair dryer, safe, and a mini bar with a frig. The frig was useful when we brought home leftover pizza (Geno's pizza is right next door). There is a Walgreen's not too far away where you can stock up on water, so you don't have to pay the mini bar prices.
There is a lounge on the top floor with an indoor and outdoor area. The indoor area was a little small but not very crowded, so it was not a problem. There is a great view from the outdoor area. It probably is great in the summer.
As mentioned in the other reviews, it is a bit noisey. There were workers in the back of the hotel working on the windows (There was a letter in the room saying they were installing another pane of glass to block the noise), and they were pounding in the morning. Also, sirens in the middle of the night because the hotel is located next to a hospital. We mentioned this to the front desk, and they moved our room to a higher floor with no problem. This was a little better, but still a lot of pounding. Each day we left the hotel early in the morning, so it wasn't that big of a deal. If you are planning on sleeping in, it might be a problem.
As mentioned in other reviews, the free wifi didn't work on my phone. It was very slow and was worse when we moved to a higher floor. Again, not that big of a deal. The hotel does have a business center that we used to print out our boarding passes for free. If you want to use the internet, there is a charge. However, the front desk offered to look up and print off anything we needed.
Lastly, I need to mention the great location. Geno's pizza is next door. Michigan Ave. is about a block away. Giordano's pizza about a block away. You can clearly see the John Hancock out of the window. Lots of restuarants and shopping nearby. Safe area near upscale stores, such as Neiman Marcus and Saks. There are also very expensive hotels nearby, so you know it's a good area.
I would definitely recommend this hotel--great location, top service, clean room. The noise problem looks like it is being corrected, and the wifi problem is not a big deal. For the price, it does not get much better than this!

Dear James_4690,

Thank you for taking time to post your very detailed review of your stay with us. I'm pleased that you had a good experience and that you were well taken care of. You are correct, this neighborhood can be kind of noisey. We are confident that our window project will help to alleviate much of that ancillary noise and we hope that you will come back to experience the difference on your next visit to Chicago. Happy Holidays!

Kind regards,

“Great Hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 5, 2012

Wonderful location and very satisfactory experience and would book again when coming to Chicago. Staff were extremely helpful and anxious to make us feel welcome. The suite was spacious and the only complaint was the noise of the fan.

“With so many good choices, why go here?”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed December 1, 2012

I wanted to write this review while still in the hotel, but the free internet never worked either in the room or in the lobby. What is worse is that nobody cared. Front desk staff was snippy at check-in and maintained their game plan throughout our three night stay. The rooms were in poor shape, the carpet was threadbare and the curtains didn't work. The lobby never got us into the holiday spirit despite recommendations that this was a great place to stay. With so many boutique hotels in downtown Chicago, just take a chance on someplace else. It will be better than MileNorth.
