“Best hostel I've stayed at yet”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 23, 2013

Prior to this trip my only experience with hostels was in Mexico. I didn't have high expectations when I booked, although the pictures made it look really nice. I was very pleasantly surprised when I got there.

It is conveniently located near rail and bus lines, so getting there from Union Station was a breeze. The building is spacious and in fantastic condition. Staff was attentive and allowed me to use the facilities while I waited to check in (I arrived several hours ahead of time).

Rooms were immaculate, spacious and comfortable. Loved that they had big lockers in the room, but keep in mind you need to bring your own lock. All guests I shared rooms with were very respectful of others at all times.

Bathroom and shower facilities were exceptionally designed and maintained. There were enough facilities that I never had to wait to use toilet or shower.

I was slightly disappointed with breakfast because it had too few options. They served mostly wheat products and only fresh apples. So it helps you start your day, but you still have to plan on completing your breakfast elsewhere or bring your own food to complement.

I liked that people of all ages stay here (not just young party-minded backpackers like there seem to be in other places) and that they also have rooms for meetings and events. I mean, this place was so nice I'd bring my mother here.

Great location, within walking distance of Chicago's main attractions and plenty of shops and restaurants. Breakfast was the best I have ever seen at a hostel - toast, bagels, muffins, apples, and juice, tea or coffee to drink. Plenty to do in the hostel and the lots of information about what to do in and around Chicago. Big hostel, but still a nice, friendly atmosphere. We had booked beds in a ten door dorm, but when we arrived we were told they were all fully book, so we were upgraded (for free) to an eight bed dorm. Only complaint is that the showers weren't completely clean, but they really weren't that bad.

Room Tip: Rooms near the L can be a little noisy, but are fine if you have ear plugs. An 8 bed dorm has a show...

The hostel was really nice, I booked a private rroom and it was great, the shared bathroom for a few rooms instead of the entire building was a great choice. I'm coming back this year. The location is great since I was coming to Lollapalooza and it's only a few blocks away from Grand Park.

Room Tip: Private rooms are great.

I stayed there over the st patrick's weekend, so it was kind of crowded, but thoroughly enjoyable!

Being in the loop itself, it is close to possibly every attractions that visitors to the city would look for: Millenium Park (Cloud Gate), Art Institute of Chicago, Broadway in Chicago, Field Musuem, Shedd Aquarium, Chicago River, Skydeck, and a bit longer, the magnificent mile.

The facilities there are sufficient from a traveller's perspective: accessible laundry, adequate security, post-checkout baggage deposits, charging and wifi, maps, everything!

My stay there is really enjoyable, and I will definitely stay there again :)

Only thing I gotta say is if you happen to have a maintence concern about your room, make sure that you are fully clothed at all times in your room. Had a maintence concern (broken blind) that took a full 24 hours for them to deal with and when they did come to handel it, the guy who I found out to be the newly hired Maintence Supervisor, decided not to knock on the door to see if the roon was occupied and decided to walk right in as I had just as I was getting dressed! If you are a travelling student, be careful. If you are a regular person that happens to come acroos their cheap prices, spend the extra money to book at a another place. Also, shower was not clean and their environmentally correct low flow flushing toilet doesn't flush very well! Other than that, the only bonus was the location. 5 mins away from the art institute and another 5 mins away from Miracle Mile!

This hostel was awesome so big and tons to do, billiards, ping pong, even a game room . Rooms are nice and beds are comfy. Breakfast is included which is a bonus . Must try the cuban cafe beside the hostel it is amazing . Great location made it easy to go places and see things.

One issue , in the confirmation email it states pay on arrival and tells you the amount, but beware that amount does not include tax nor does it say plus tax. I thought I was to pay the amount stated but found out otherwise. Please read the fine print. But other than that no issues at all.

I stayed here for a week and never had a negative experience. The rooms and bathrooms are always clean, free breakfast is nice, and the staff was very nice. Located downtown near every line of metro and near a metra stop as well. I highly recommend it.

Room Tip: Its a hostel so you should know what to expect... Wi-fi can be slow at nights.
