“Excelente opcion para Viajeros que van hacer Chicago Marathon.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 28, 2012

In October 2012 I had the opportunity to go to Chicago with my wife for Chicago Marathon, Hi-Chicago picked by searching the internet who saw it was very close to THE LOOP, besides that their rates were very reasonable for that date, however when we arrived we realized that the location was excellent, just 2 blocks from the start of the race, Hostel and room eventhough they were simple, they were very clean and nice, excellent for pesonas that barely passed in the hotel and practically only go to sleep.

To use the trip I made several purchases online, and asked to be left at the reception the Hi-Chicago, which kept them kindly to my arrive. However 2 packages for me were very important and I had never came back my country Costa Rica, without them.

However, I was pleasantly surprised when two months after the manager of Hi-Chicago, informed me that the package had arrived, and would do their best to get me.

Definitely this beautiful experience, I retune the human quality of people working at HI-Chicago, Many thanks to all the staff. and a special thanks to the Manager: Rey Matos and Kile. have a friend here in Costa Rica

Good room set up. Clean. Good location. What more could you want from a hostel?

Well good tours. Which this one has. In particular if Chuck is doing a tour (I don't think he has a particular schedule) then make sure you do it. He knows more about Chicago than anyone else. And he's a cool interesting bloke.

We had a private room with a shared public area and bathroom. We only saw another couple once and it was very quite on our floor. The bathrooms were clean as well as the restrooms. The bedroom was clean along with the sheets but it got hot and dry and night.

Breakfast was free but remember to do your dishes. The location is perfect for taking public transportation around the city and I highly suggest downloading a CTA transit app for your smartphone. Itll save you time, money, and frustration.

The security was great. Had to use my card 4 times to get into my room. There are girl scouts who stay here in the community rooms.

Hostelling International has all the good things of a hostel, but the quality of a low-budget hotel.
There is much space to sit and meet people or social activities to join. Yes, you need to share a bathroom and wash your own breakfast plates, but that is all. My single room (with double bunk bed) on the sixth floor was enormous, clean and provided with fresh towels every day. Opposed to another review on this page, I found it a very quiet and restful place.Furthermore, all my encounters with staff were very positive. People are not just friendly, they are also excited and eager to help, for example with tourist questions. You can buy tickets to certain attractions for reduced prices or join a walking tour or night out. Breakfasts include muffins, waffles, bagels, toast and cereal with various jams and cheeses. And you know what? As a European I am proud to say that even the coffee was not that bad. Last but not least, the wifi is excellent.

HI Chicago is by far the best hostel I have ever been to. My experience there was so pleasant, that I feel that it deserves more than just the label hostel; it's a fantastic budget hotel on a A-location.

For travellers looking for a low budget stay in Chicago, this may be a good option. Location is the best asset.

Staff at the front desk seemed to be friendly although at check in I was welcome by a brick behaviour person.

Remember to bring good ear plugs, otherwise your nights can become a nightmare due to the constant noise of the trains in front of the windows. (At times unbearable)

Finally, be patient in the mornings. LIfts will be busy.

Room Tip: There are no quiet rooms since the windows face the train

Our stay was great!! They provided a little breakfast in the morning with bagel, toast and croissants. The rooms were really nice and clean. The staff at the front desk always helpful. The only two little downsides were: slow Internet in the evenings (prob due to too many people connected at the same time) and the toilets, there is not too many and having the WC separate from the shower would have been really good!! I have to say I was in the floor with private bedrooms so it might be different in the dorms.

Best hostel I have ever stayed in. The location is great. Close to downtown and a variety of train lines. The staff are really helpful and maintain the hostel to a high standard. If you are a social person who wants to get out and see the city then why bother with a hotel?
