“Super Hotel in a super location”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 21, 2012

I was pleasantly surprised by the overall quality of this great hotel. First let me state that the location is outstanding. It is on the Chicago River, Millenium Park, Navy Pier, Lake Michigan and the Mag Mile are all within blocks of this hotel. Yet, it is on a part of Wacker Drive that is somewhat quiet and away from all the hustle of the city. So, it has the best of everything. The hotel is in great shape - well maintained. Great views of the city and the lake. The staff is top notch and very friendly. I don't normally think of the Swissotel when I think of staying somewhere in Chicago for business - but, I certainly will now.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a view - the hotel is nicely situated so, there are many to choose from.

We visited Chicago for 3 days...when we first saw our suite, the 1st words out of my 24 year-old son..."this is just like the hotel in the Hangover!!" My comment in return was, " don't do the same thing as the movie!!"

The nicest hotel we have ever been in...super expensive & plush. Downside? Parking was $50 per day! But then, all parking in Chicago is absurd..on the way to the airport, I asked the concierge where to get authentic Chi-town hotdogs ( gotta have one when there!). When we returned after a great hotdog, fries & coke meal for 4, which cost about $30, I was shocked to pay $17 to get out of parking lot! We were only there about 30 minutes!!

Anyway, Swissotel was 1st rate, top notch staff & accommodations. Spring for the suite...it's definitely worth the extra bucks!

Room Tip: Always spring for the suite! Pretend you're rich!

The ambiance and staff of the hotel were great. The rooms were very clean and tidy and room design was exceptional. Loved the elevators. I will definately stay here again and again... The surroundings was great and close to all amenities in downtown Chicago..

Room Tip: Get the top floor to enjoy the view of the Chicago River... Night view is exceptional!

Staff is rude. Valet is in shambles, like a third world country at checkout. "Concierge" said he'd print off walking directions to Navy Pier for me in a [--] tone when i asked the best way to get there. In winter. With my older mother. Actually walked to a nearby hotel who helped us.

Twice an objection was made over the phone, twice was i hung up on. It was literay unbelievable, i thought i was being pranked.

I would sleep in the river before i went back to this place. Fail.

Surprised that for the cost there were more downfalls than perks. They have a pool and exercise room but I didn't need it with all the walking I did this weekend. Could not find self park nearby. Valet parking was extremely pricey. Check in was smooth. The front desk was pleasant but not overly friendly. We checked in at a busy time. Elevators didn't seem to be working. Tons of people standing and waiting. You type in your floor number and it assigns you one of 6 elevators. Took 5 minutes for one to open and it wasn't ours. When it did arrive it had our floor number but took us to basement instead. After 15 minutes finally got to room. Room was clean and had great view but no top sheets on either bed. Learned that no one else had any either. Ick! They think I'm using a non washed comforter to cover? No thanks. Taxi waits were long. We were told to call for our car 15 minutes before we wanted to leave. Took over 30 minutes instead. Just not as good as other places we've stayed in Chicago. Won't be back.

Booked this through Priceline earlier in the year... was my second time staying at the Swissotel. The lobby is very open and well-lit. They have flavoured water available free of charge as well. Staff is very professional and helpful. When you go to take the elevator, it's a bit different! Punch in your floor at the bottom before you get on the elevator.

The room itself was very clean, had a nice view of downtown Chicago and was everything we expected. We also made use of the pool on the top floor of the hotel, which had an even better view which my 6 year old son loved. The pool was a tad chilly, but not too bad. They also have a hot tub. The pool area was a bit crowded but manageable. It also seemed as though someone was getting swimming lessons when we first arrived, so that seems to be a service that is available.

Location wise, the hotel is excellent. It was a 10 minute walk to Bobby's Bike Hike, where we had a tour the next day. It was 5-10 minutes over to Michigan Ave and ample restaurants within walking distance. Millenium park is a few blocks away, the river is right outside the hotel, etc. It was about a 25-30 min walk up to Water Town Plaza where the Lego store is.

My only beef was the fee for parking since we had scored the rate through Priceline. If I remember correctly it was $50 per night. We ended up parking in a local garage which was about a 10 min walk since we didn't require the car for the duration of our stay. It worked out fine.
