“Pleasantly Surprised!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed today NEW

I was in town for a conference a few short blocks away by foot so the location for me was ideal. Staff were warm and helpful with restaurant selections and secret discounts to various places. I was lucky as I had found a good rate on their website, look for the discount relating to how many nights

Room was spacious but faced a brick wall which was too bad but I was only there to sleep really as the conference kept me away for over twelve hours a day. The noise of the city was sometimes noticeable but no major real issues. Bed was comfortable, bedding was good quality. Bathroom was decent in size, amenities from Bath and Body Works, and great shower pressure. The Blake offers free WiFi which was helpful and convenient as I had to do some work while away.

Close to countless attractions, restaurants the Blake is in a useful location and staff were always attentive and courteous, no complaints here!

Room Tip: Ask to face away from the brick wall

Hotel Blake is in downtown Chicago. We have visited twice in the past 2 years. We love the location and staff. They are very friendly and helpful. Kat at the front desk helped us with an uncomfortable bed situation. "Showtime" the evening door man is so fun and will always have a suggestion for fun in the city. We would highly recommend this hotel!

Room Tip: Rooms at the back of the hotel are quieter and have a view of the Sears Tower but no sleep issues an...

PROS: central, convenient location rights by the El and the subway; beautiful, comfortable lobby, reasonably-priced room service, incredibly spacious and well-appointed rooms and huge bathrooms; friendly and helpful staff

CONS: room was not ready at check-in time (I was given a restaurant credit in return, but still); some rooms can be reached only up half-flights of stairs; restaurant/room service food sounded much better than it tasted (though the juices were great); room was INCREDIBLY noisy, from street noise, the noise of the El a couple blocks north, noise in the hallway, and noise from the room above--the hotel knows this and provides earplugs; water carafes in the lobby were often not refilled (yet the bathroom water did not taste good and room service did not provide water with the food)

Room Tip: To avoid noise, ask for a higher floor; be sure to specify if you cannot handle stairs

A native Chicagoan, I had never even heard of this hotel before. My boyfriend needed to attend an expo at McCormick Place for a few days so we stay at Hotel Blake. All I can say is how did I not know about this hotel before? It is in the up and coming South Loop area. Only about a 10 minute walk to Millennium Park and the Loop area. The staff was friendly, our rooms were big and the restaurant downstairs is delicious!

We stayed on the fifth floor in a double queen room. The beds were very comfortable. We had a view of the Willis Tower, which was nice. The bathroom was large with double sink, large vanity, plenty of electrical outlets, rainfall shower was okay but there was no shower door so the heat escaped and fogged up the mirrors (no fan). The room itself was a good size. The lighting was a bit dim but that didn't bother us. There was quite a bit of noise from outside...sirens, cars, horns. They do provide ear plugs in little packages on the bedside table (that should tell you something). We were so exhausted that the noise didn't bother us though.

The location was good. We weren't too far from the "L", the red line and buses (which stopped right outside the hotel). It is just south of the downtown loop. If you're looking for a hotel in the middle of downtown attractions/restaurants then this one is a bit further than that. There is a cafe on the ground floor but we didn't eat there. There's also a Starbucks right across the street.

Help from the front desk regarding directions was hit or miss. The first night they tried to send us way outside of town when we asked for directions to Second City. There were a couple of people that always knew how to use the buses and trains but the others were less than helpful and just suggested we take a taxi. There was one nice doorman but another was one of the most annoying people I had ever dealt with at a hotel and the other doorman was just downright rude. They will hold your luggage for you before check-in and after check-out (which is at noon...awesome!).

Overall, we were pleased with the hotel and I would recommend it to others. Just be aware that it's not in the center of everything...you're going to walk quite a bit to get to Millennium Park or take buses/trains.

And that's the big draw, if you're looking to stay in that area. Convenient to the Art Institute, the subway, the financial district. It's sometimes hard to truly modernize an historic property, but they've done a good job. Only thing odd was no mirror outside the bathroom. Otherwise, comfortable beds, good plumbing, spacious rooms. And some of best lobby coffee I've ever had. Phenomenally helpful, knowledgeable, and friendly staff; every single one. I really enjoyed the stay. Pricey, but in line with comparable properties.

The location is absolutely good, the rooms are spacious and clean with beautiful high ceilings, the beds are very comfortable and the staff were friendly. The only thing i was making a reservation and when i do the check in they give us a room with 1 queen bed and a couch with a small mattress , was also broken.
It was very late and we wanted to sleep. the reservation was made and I had contacted the day before to report that we needed 2 twin beds.
An hour later they gave us a suite for one night and the next day we got the room reserved.
