“We were disappointed. We are Wyndham franchise...”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 28, 2013

We were disappointed. We are Wyndham franchise owners(Microtel) and received no consideration from the front desk. We stayed in the Wyndham Blake because we thought we would get a discount. The room was very expensive, we were quoted prices of $100 less in other hotels more north on Michigan Ave, which would have been more convenient for our activities.

The good:

Room and bathroom size is great, the bed is huge, the flat screen tv is enormous, the decor is fine. The location is brilliantly central and the staff are brilliantly helpful. The aircon is very powerful.

The bad:

It's noisy. Take ear plugs because you will need them.
The breakfast is appalling. Like really appalling. There are some chewy bagels you have to toast yourself, lots of sweet pastries, and some very sweet fresh fruit. But there's no toast, no eggs, no yoghurt, no cereal. It's basically just sugary muck.

So do stay there, pack your earplugs, and eat breakfast at a nearby cafe.

Clean and comfortable room. Only complaint was noise, coming from the alley outside our window. Vehicles backing up - with warning horns - VERY early each morning.

We stayed 9 nights in this hotel just over a week ago. The first night the aircon was noisy, I complained about it the following morning and we were moved without any fuss. The second room was ok until the 3rd night when the aircon decided to rattle like a broken fan. In case we were regarded as being over fussy I went to reception at 6.30am, after little sleep, and asked the receptionist to come up and listen to it himself, which he did. He agreed it was very noisy and something was wrong with it. A repair man appeared 15 mins later and fixed it. I sent an e-mail to the Manager about 2 nights lack of sleep and copied in J Vee, Director of Sales. We were telephoned before 10.00am the following morning and upgraded from our King Room to a King Suite, given $200 comp for the 2 nights lack of sleep and comped our last night. This was over and above my expectations and very welcome. But, would I stay here again? No, we pre paid an average of $252/night; 2 nights were $303. Considering other hotels we have stayed in in the USA I think it was over priced. We were advised that it is such a large hotel that they don't know about faulty aircon unless a guest mentions it or, the telephones weren't working in the King Suite and the explanation was that most guests don't use them these days. Something was lacking. I also don't understand the frequent response to posts that a higher room should be chosen to reduce noise. There is a fire station not far away and the hotel being next to a major road gets noise from the fire engines night and day. Nothing the hotel can do about it. And not only can you hear the sirens from about 1/2 mile away, the standard procedure seems to be for the driver to put their hand on the really loud horn and leave it there on approach to and going through junctions. (You have to cover your ears if you are outside and hear one coming). So if you are a light sleeper then this hotel is not for you.

Finally, on arrival we were quoted $25/night for a fridge! Just as well we were moved to a suite where it was already included.

Room Tip: King Suite, small dark bedroom, no room for toiletries around the designer basin and no shelf in sho...
