“Comfortable and convenient”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 21, 2013

Very comfortable room with plenty of space and well maintained.
The bathroom with the separate shower was well appointed. I would caution that a larger guest might find the shower room and separate toilet room a bit cramped.

Although the woman on the front desk was rather surly, the staff at the lounge/bar were very friendly and helpful. Appreciated the nice seating areas in the lounge bar, comfy couches next to large windows made for a comfortable place to perch.

3 of 5 stars Reviewed November 21, 2013

We are just back home after a week-long stay at the Fairmont Chicago Millennium Park. We were initially underwhelmed by the hotel, surprisingly as the reviews we read beforehand raised our expectations. While our stay was acceptable, we would probably not return to this hotel; as you can see, our list of "Cons" is far longer than our list of "Pros". 3 1/2 stars.

Pros:
-- The location is central and accessible; we like to walk and take public transit, so it was very convenient for us.
-- The bed was very comfortable.
-- The room had a Nespresso machine and staff happily brought us extra pods whenever asked.
-- Once contacted, the supervisory staff was responsive and other staff were generally helpful. A Room Service supervisor called back one evening to check whether an issue had been resolved during the day as she'd intended: good follow-up.
-- Our room service dinner one night was ample, tasty, and nicely presented, and the delivery staff was excellent.
-- Temperature control in the room was both accurate and nearly silent.
-- It was very nice to have a copy of the Chicago Tribune outside our door, but it only appeared on one of the six mornings we were there: our final morning. (So this is both a pro and a con.)

Cons:
-- There were some strange design decisions in the rooms. There are NO DRAWERS, so either you hang your clothing up (after calling to ask for more hangers) or you leave it in your suitcase. But since there is no luggage rack in the room, you have to call to ask for one of those also, to allow you to turn your suitcase into a makeshift dresser for the week. (I don't hang up my socks and underwear, do you?)
-- There was a separate small room for the toilet, which is fine, but there was no trashcan in that room (not fine). The trashcans in the main room and bathroom were just boxes without liners so it seemed icky when we had to actually put things in them other than a paper item.
-- We reported to the Front Desk on our first night a number of lights flickering out and in need of replacement bulbs and were told it would be taken care of by Engineering in the morning. None of the bulbs were replaced during our stay.
-- There were some lapses in housekeeping: towels not replaced, drinking glasses and coffee mugs taken away but not refreshed, water left in the ice bucket for a couple days... and there was some confusing overlap between Housekeeping and Room Service, which couldn't seem to agree between them who was responsible for the coffee service or drinking glasses.
-- In this day and age, there is no reasonable reason to charge for basic wifi, especially at an upscale hotel. It should be a service like any other utility. Hotels don't charge for electricity or water; they should also not charge $15/day for wifi. Ridiculous.
-- The lobby 'featured' fairly loud music most evenings. I suppose that was meant to be for the lobby bar, but it continued even when the bar was empty. It wasn't anything we could stand to listen to.
-- Soundproofing is somewhat light between rooms: most nights of our stay, we could hear the man next door having a skype call with someone at home.

Comfortable hotel room, but we expected fewer lapses based on the hotel reputation and cost.

5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 20, 2013

Came to Chicago on business and stayed at the Fairmont for 4 nights. The views were spectacular from my spacious room. The beds were comfortable, the TV was huge and the bathroom had separate tub, shower, and toilet room.

All staff was cheerful and helpful. From the front desk, concierge, and bell staff, all my interactions were handled with kindness and aplomb.

I would have rated this hotel much higher, except for the expensive wifi. As an attendee of a convention, I was given basic internet access for free, which normally costs $10.00 per day. Even though it was free because of my group affiliation, the internet service was substandard. It was slow and pages kept freezing. I could not even manage my airline reservation using the internet service. The alternative premium internet service is nearly $25.00 per day, which is outrageous. Fairmont, be a sport, and throw in free, quality internet service for your guests. It's 2013, and staying connected is no longer a luxury option for guests. It's an expectation.

That being said, it is a shame that the experience was diminished by poor internet options. The room was amply sized, nicely furnished, and very comfortable. The bathroom was large and nicely appointed. The public rooms are nicely designed.

I don’t have any real complaints about the hotel. It was very clean, modern and comfortable. The location is by the river, which is convenient, although, if I went again, I think I would stay on the other side of the river (north river), closer to Magnificent mile and all the action. It just seemed to be much more “livelier” on that side. But I guess it just depends what you want. The Fairmont has Millennium Park just a block away which is great, and closer to the Loop as well.
All in all it was a very good stay.
(parking is alittle over priced!)

This was a 5 night business trip. The staff was wonderful, the rooms clean and very generous in size. And what a great location for both business and pleasure! I wish they would just add internet to the rate, but this is a common wish for all of us frequent travelers.

Room Tip: any room is a good room! Great noise control in the downtown hotel, i barely heard a thing. I was...
