“Go for the location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 12, 2012

The location and staff were amazing. It is off Michigan, and within walking of shops, and activities. After looking at other hotels, I prefer this location to any other. I didn't like that you had to take an elevator up to floor 12 to get to the lobby, then get an elevator to your room. It wasted a lot of time, although it does keep you away from the noise of Michigan Ave. The rooms were small, but I did appreciate the large bathroom. The fitness center was just above average, and crowded. Still, for what we paid for the room compared with others, I think it was a great value.

Got great prices for what is a fantastic location and certainly one of the grand hotels. Room size is extremely generous and gives you enough space to walk around. If you are in Chicago on business, this is the hotel you should choose. It is not overtly far from the airport and within 5-10 minutes drive from the city centre/downtown area. Breakfast was extremely nice and the service in the restaurant was top notch. Fast, efficient and great value-just what you need when you are visiting a hotel on business. The fromt office staff was also helpful although they seemed swamped with the number of visitors on a busy evening.

Room Tip: I was there for a short visit so the view did not matter

Just returned from a stay with my granddaughter. This is my new favorite hotel. We felt so welcome there that I will visit Chicago again just for the opportunity of staying at this wonderful hotel with the nicest, most helpful staff. Love, love this hotel.

Travelled for 24hours and got to RC finally. I got the junior suite for my family as we had our kids traveling with us. Hotel room was nicely furnished and the hotel staff was really courteous. They were generous with their time and really went out of their way to give us details on where to eat/shop etc. One hiccup though was the a/c unit and the amount of time it took to fix it (2 nights of faulty a/c) - you can imagine how LONG 2 nights can be if you compound that with jet lag. In the end, they comped one night and surprised us with breakfast in our room! Manager really knew how to make up for it. Great hotel and location is also very good - just along Magnificent Mile so shopping is easy. Supermarket was also conveniently located (Walgreens). i would definitely stay here again.

Outstanding customer service. The Ritz-Carlton (formally Four Seasons Chicago) has a minimum standard of excellence and the tradition is most definitely carried forward here. Amazing view of the skyscrapers with their city night lights dazzling colors off their rooftops Located within walking distance of shops, restaurants and nightlife. The elevator stops in the Water Tower Mall. We will stay here again when we visit Chicago.

Room Tip: We had the corner suite on the 21st floor. It was breathtaking with views of the navy pier on one si...

What's in a name? This is a Four Seasons Hotel that uses the Ritz Carlton name as a doing-business-as type arrangement. That's not a problem, unless you have a goal of collecting or using Ritz Carlton frequent traveler points on a stay here--they don't apply.

The hotel, adjacent to the old Water Tower is well run with the usual amenities one expects at a Four Seasons or Ritz. The configuration is a bit odd, however. On arrival one must take an elevator to the 12th floor lobby to check in, and then a separate bank of elevators to rooms on floors 13-31. Check-in and out were flawless and the staff does try to call you by name. The lobby and meeting rooms are well appointed, and catering for business meetings was well done. Our group of 25 held 3 days of executive business meetings here. The higher floors (above 31) of the building are private residences with separate elevators/entrances. The location is convenient to many sights and shopping opportunities.

My room (2721) was well furnished, clean, and well-maintained, but a bit small for this level of quality and the shower was a bit cramped next to the toilet in a small room off the double-lavatory area of the bathroom. This would not seem a big deal in many lesser quality hotels, but seemed a bit off for a Four Seasons or Ritz.

Catering for our meetings was generally quite good with some odd exceptions. For example, a request for iced tea at a meal took 10 minutes and resulted in a beverage clearly made from a powdered mix. Not what one would expect at a hotel of this genre.

The service was generally first rate, although one day (out of 4) my room had not been made up by 2pm. When I called housekeeping that was quickly remedied.

I would have rated the visit excellent apart from the room size/configuration, nasty tasting iced tea, and missed housekeeping day.

Room Tip: Some rooms have a good view of the lake. The hotel meeting rooms are of good quality.

Dear Guest,

Thank you for your review of our hotel. I'm glad you enjoyed your stay with us, but I apologize for the details missing from your experience. You absolutely should have received housekeeping service prior to 2:00 pm, and I have followed up with our banquet staff regarding the iced tea quality, too. Details and attention to service are what set us apart as a hotel and I'm sorry to hear you did not experience all of them.

Thank you again for taking the time to provide feedback. We hope to have the opportunity to welcome you back again soon.

I have been a guest at The Ritz-Carlon either for dinner, cocktails or just for a getaway since the 80's and have always loved the magnificent service they provide. My mom is turning 80 soon, and I cannot think of a more perfect place to celebrate her special day. Concierge Terry was simply divine in assisting me arrange everything to make Mom's birthday one to remember forever! I adore the R.C. staff, for they are the absolute finest!
