“Fantastic Experience , Great hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 9, 2013

The service was excellent from check-in to check-out. The main lobby was extremely grand and the guest rooms, superb, lush, a home away from home. It is a walking distance from all the shopping malls, theaters, lots of restaurants, and good food. It made my stay in Chicago truly blissful. Truly a great experience.

Room Tip: Book well in advance because during the summer months there may not be any rooms available.

We stayed here as part of a wedding block so we didn't spend much time in the hotel. The lobby area was very nice and looked like a relaxing area to meet friends an have a drink. The room was small but we didn't spend much time in there anyways. It would b a nice place to stay for a couple looking spend some time in Chicago.

This is a great historic hotel. Would like to especially recognize Tracy at concierge desk and Ernest on the Executive level as excellent, helpful represenatives of the hotel. The executive level had nice amenities although unlike Ritz concierge level alcoholic drinks were not included. The hotel is in a great location and we would stay again

Old fashioned glamor. From the minute I stepped out of the cab I felt like royalty. Customer service is beyond compare. Was allowed to check in early and was upgraded to a suite by the clerk just because I was staying more than 3 days and am a Hilton Honors member. My luggage was taken from me at the cab and delivered to the room. The room was nice enough but the age shows. Peeling paint. Thick carpets and a bed to die for though. The bathroom was not as clean as I am used to in a hotel. The mirror on the door of the bathroom was not cleaned and the shower curtain was wet which I found a little disconcerting. Room service was expensive but very good. (This is a hotel where you will find yourself tipping a lot). Internet service was a little tricky to connect to and not cheap. I bought it for 7 days because or was cheaper than 3. The hotel is huge and finding my way around want easy. Different elevators depending on the floor you're on. The one thing that made my stay less than ideal was the humidity. I know the hotel can't control the weather but I had the air down to 60 and was still too hotespecially at night. I would consider staying here again if someone else was paying for it only because this hotel is way out of my personal budget. I visited here because of a conference and it was one of the preferred properties.

We spent three nights here at the start of our vacation. The hotel is full of character and style of a bygone era. We had a room on the "executive" floor which entitled us to "free" evening snacks and buffet breakfast, neither of which were over generous. Also people who weren't entitled to the breakfast and evening snacks were finding there way onto this supposedly exclusive floor, which made us wonder why we bothered to pay the difference for the upgrade. Charging around $12 a day for wi fi seems mean too. Despite these gripes, and the lengthy wait to check out, we would use this hotel again because of its great central location and ambience.

Room Tip: Not sure that the extra cost of the executive rooms is really worth it.

My boyfriend won a free night here from his work's holiday party. We finally got a chance to use it, and for being a free room it was very nice. We probably were given the 'worst' room, but it was still very nice and big. We did have a view of a brick wall, but since we live in Chicago that didn't bother us much. The location is great, since it's right downtown, next to State street and since it's in the Loop, it's got the train station right down the street.

Service was great from check-in to check-out. The main lobby was magnificent; it was fun just sitting there with a drink and looking around. Our room was spacious and the bedding was incredibly comfortable. The location is perfect and within walking distance of theaters, shopping, the Art Institute, and lots of restaurants.
