“Nice Hotel with a Central Downtown Chicago Location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 10, 2013

Another woman and I shared a room for two nights while attending a conference in Chicago. This hotel has some beautiful architectural features in the lobby area. The room was quite spacious for an older hotel. The water pressure in the shower could be a little better, but it was sufficient. It would be nice to have a coffee maker in the room, but I suppose they don't do that because Starbucks is in their lobby. The conference was held at the hotel, and I have nothing but praise for the staff that took care of setting up the rooms and keeping the coffee and meal service in order. All the food that I ate during the meeting was very good. If you are looking for a facility to hold a conference in Chicago, I would recommend the Hilton. And I would definitely consider staying here again should the opportunity arise in the future.

We stayed at the Palmer House Hilton for a business trip and booked the "accessible" Suite with a roll-in shower and I have to say, we were not disappointed! The hotel itself has so much history and the ceiling in the main lobby is as beautiful as they say--it is a very grand old hotel that has underwent renovations and is a great place to stay. We ordered room service a couple of nights and the food and service was excellent and the room itself was very large and spacious. The location of the hotel is great...very close to Millenium Park and some great restaurants...we will definitely stay here again!!

Love that the Palmer House lets you go back in time to the majesty of a fancy "destination" hotel downtown, but gives you all the updates you'd expect for travel today. Don't miss the chance to have a drink in the beautiful lobby bar and admire the ceiling. But be aware - your room charge is just that: the charge for your room (which is lovely, by the way).

Wireless is an added charge.
No coffee maker in the room, either.
And save yourself a bundle by finding a surface lot to park in (Balbo and State). Valet is $61.

Regardless, I recommend it. I've stayed here for business and for fun, and never been disappointed.

Very impressive lobby area with grand architectural details. Rooms small but adequate. Lobby bar very busy and a bit short staffed, but a great place for people watching. Staff friendly, taxi's readily available; great location.

Three Up, Three Down:
1. Great staff - the entire staff was on point and willing to help, especially Tracy at the concierge desk.
2. Location - The hotel was right next to the train stop.
3. The food - The food here is delicious!

1. Price - This hotel offers a lot of amenities, but not for the price that they charge.
2. Gym - Why must I pay $10 to use the gym? I was truly upset about that charge.
3. Elevator service - You will wait at least five minutes for an elevator.

I was here for a business trip and the only "knocks" were it was a touch pricey and the business center could use some updates. Most business travelers have their own computers and wireless access, so the business center and pricing really aren't much of an issue. The location is fantastic and lobby is truly impressive! Each member of the staff I encountered were very service oriented and everything you would expect from a place like this.

My review repeats many others; small room, SMALLER bathroom & few amenities in the room; for example no stocked refrig. (a sm. refrig. can be placed in the rm. upon request but obviously not stocked). Did not have a good view but not an essential issue for our 1 night stay. Acceptance of lack of a view based on had not requested a rm. w/ a view furthermore felt that we did not pay $$$$ so more accepting of not having a view. Stayed on a Sat. and noted that the lobby bar seating fills-up quickly which could make it challenging to get a drink & enjoy the beautiful architecture. Staff members were very pleasant & helpful. Only issue I had, the ice machine was not only some distance from our rm. (staff did not offer to fill-up the ice bucket) but also happened that the ice machine on our floor was broken so I had to go to another floor to retrieve. Not the worse thing in the world, but when I'm away from home I appreciate convenience. Enjoyed the historical facts that hotel TV channel aired. Overall, would revisit. Felt the price was reasonable & certainly enjoyed the nostalgic décor.
