“Second stay, as good as the first.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 18, 2013

We chose to stay here again because of the handy location, and found the same friendly, efficient welcome. The decor is eclectic and brings a smile to my face...especially the window seats overlooking the river. There is coffee and tea in the mornings, and a wine reception every evening. It's well located for a tourist in Chicago, close to the Architectual boat tours, a short walk to Millenium Park and the Art Institute, and just over the river from the shopping of the Mag.mile. It's about 4 blocks from the Blue line train from O'Hare, and one block from the closest Loop station.

Wetwo Sydney,
Those architecture boat tours are amazing, aren't they? I'm so glad you enjoy the fabulous window seats available in our River View King rooms. Thanks heaps for sharing your kind review.

We recently stayed at the Monaco for an anniversary weekend. The hotel is located right by the Chicago river with a view of the Wabash bridge area.
Our arrival was perfect. Greeted promptly by the doorman. Parking is not part of the hotel but there is valet service. Check in took less then 5 minutes.
I reserved a river view Mediterranean suite. A beautiful 2 room suite. Large king bedroom and separate living room. Bathroom had large tub. A few downsides, small closet and scant dresser space & bathroom shower tiny and bathroom is overall small. But for a renovated hotel is was appropriate. Room views everywhere with this corner suite. Bed was comfortable. Room quite quiet even being close to west Wacker.
I'll provide a separate review of the SouthWater restaurant.
Check out was smooth. Although a great hotel, the lack of a pool may negate this a s family destination in the future as with younger children, a pool is a good attraction.

MDDOC151,
Happy anniversary! We are always delighted to host guests on their special occasions! I'm happy to hear you enjoyed the Mediterranean Suite and that amazing view from those window seats. Both kids and adults love to look out on the city from them.
Thanks for sharing teh experience, and look forward to some soon to be renovated bathrooms.

The location of the hotel is excellent, and the staff from desk to maintenance was cordial and helpful. Desk staff were quite knowledgeable. The lobby has coffee service in the morning, and wine between 5 and 6.

My issues with the Monaco are the rooms. Whoever designed them never tried to stay in them. 3 of us stayed in a suite. There was no dresser or cabinet to unpack to (only open shelving in the "living room" area). Half the bathroom was taken up by a giant jacuzzi---this was good since there is no shelving in the bathroom for toiletries (we used the tub!). The shower by contrast was teeny. And--they decorated like a New Orleans wh***ehouse (OK, not the worst thing in the world).

Kimpton designers....you can do better!!!!!!

Bcereus,
I'm delighted to hear that you found the location excellent, along the river and near all the major attractions. It sounds like you found our team genuinely helpful and welcoming, which is also great to hear.
Rest assured, we have rolling clothing dressers we can always bring up to a room and even more good news- we're looking into redesigning all our suites bathrooms to bring in some more space for our guests.
Thanks for your feedback.

I walked into the hotel Monaco in Chicago cold, wet, and at least an hour late to a weekend meeting. Just waking into the lobby, with it's deco decor and a roaring fire made me feel better,

The staff was exceptionally friendly--from the door man to the desk, the waitstaff to the cleaning team. The hotel itself is beautifully appointed and what a great location. There is a great run along the river to the lakeside trail and all the shopping Meccas are a walk away.
I will definitely make this my go-to hotel in Chicago.

This is my hotel of choice when in Chicago. Very nice comfortable rooms. Service is impeccable. Ive stayed here a dozen times and every time we do, the staff does something to make our stay unique and enjoyable. Rooms are quiet, well insulated from street noise. Great views down the river. Very safe location with easy access to museums, Millennium Park, Michigan Ave, you name it. Do not hesitate to book a room here, you wont be disappointed. Ryan Parker, the Assistant General Manager will make sure your stay is perfect. He's a great asset to the hotel. Thanks Monaco.

Room Tip: Make sure you get a room with a window seat.

Stayed at Hotel Monaco for a week on business. Hands down, this is the best hotel I have ever stayed at in all of my years traveling! My first day there, I'd had a horrible day at work and after the bell man (Michael) brought up my bags and asked me how my day was, he kindly returned a few minutes later with a bottle of wine!! I felt like he genuinely cared about my situation and he even followed up with me the next day when he saw me down in the lobby. Everyone at the hotel from the housekeepers to the front desk attendants to the bell man were all exceptionally friendly and always willing to ask to help and made me feel very 'welcome'. The hotel is in an excellent location, right off Michigan Ave and on the river. It is extremely clean, the decor and the rooms are beautiful and it has all the amenities you would ever need. The fitness center had some of the nicest treadmills I've ever ran on. On my future trips to Chicago, I won't stay anywhere but here. Absolutely amazed at the level of service!

I stayed here, first time, for 3 nights on a recent business trip. Was recommended by a colleague. Clean, modern, and great staff. Rooms are a good size and well equipped. I stayed on the 11th floor and there was no noise from the trains. Free coffee in the lobby daily from 6-9am, which was surprisingly very good!. Take a quick walk down to Millennium Park and see "The Bean". Best to go early, around sunrise for the best pictures and without other people around.

And don't miss the free Wine Hour in the lobby, daily from 5-6pm. Props on that!

Dave-
We love to hear someone referred you- that's a great colleague to have! Was it the large guest rooms, the wine hour experience or the awesome location near so many sites and restaurants that Chicago offers? Either way, it sounds like you really had a great time, and thats fabulous to hear.
Thanks for sharing!
