My husband, daughter (2 years old), and I stayed at the Hotel Monaco early in July for 4 nights. We all absolutely loved it! A highlight for the family was the window seats...our daughter fell in LOVE with them and that was the only place she wanted to be while we were in our room. She loved to sit up there and "see what happens" (her words). We had also requested a goldfish in our room prior to our arrival, and we received not one, but TWO goldfish on our second day, which we named Harold and Dorothy. She loved having the fish to come home to each day!
The rooms are modern, yet comfortable. We stayed in a Mediterranean Suite on the 3rd floor, and it was a great location. The soaking tub was probably one of the biggest, deepest tubs I have ever seen. The shower is very tiny, so be prepared for that. I am 5'3", and it was a little difficult to maneuver around in it. Our room was cleaned each day, and we also had turndown service on most evenings, which was nice.
We did take advantage of the wine hour most nights. This was very enjoyable...great wine (also some sangria), and great conversation with some of the other guests staying at the hotel. They even had board games and Jeopardy! on the Wii for people to enjoy.
Also, I would definitely recommend becoming a Facebook fan of the hotel. You just might get a little extra gift from the hotel (we received two cupcakes from Sugar Bliss, SO delicious!).
The hotel is in a great location...very close to the river walk, as well as Millennium Park and Michigan Avenue, among other things.
One tiny issue was the cost of parking. Everything we looked at on their website said that parking was $42 a night, but when we got there, it was $46 a night. It might be helpful to others if they update their website and promotional materials so everyone is informed. I know it's only a $4 difference per night, but it adds up after a few nights.
I could go on and on about all of the positive attributes of this hotel, but all in all, it was spectactular. They have really thought of just about everything, and there are so many unique extras offered by them that you don't see often from other hotels, especially at such an affordable hotel as this one. The window seats alone are worth it!
Don't hesitate to book this hotel, you will be very happy that you did! It is certainly at the top of our list for the next time we come to Chicago!
