“A top notch hotel for families!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 7, 2011

My husband, daughter (2 years old), and I stayed at the Hotel Monaco early in July for 4 nights. We all absolutely loved it! A highlight for the family was the window seats...our daughter fell in LOVE with them and that was the only place she wanted to be while we were in our room. She loved to sit up there and "see what happens" (her words). We had also requested a goldfish in our room prior to our arrival, and we received not one, but TWO goldfish on our second day, which we named Harold and Dorothy. She loved having the fish to come home to each day!

The rooms are modern, yet comfortable. We stayed in a Mediterranean Suite on the 3rd floor, and it was a great location. The soaking tub was probably one of the biggest, deepest tubs I have ever seen. The shower is very tiny, so be prepared for that. I am 5'3", and it was a little difficult to maneuver around in it. Our room was cleaned each day, and we also had turndown service on most evenings, which was nice.

We did take advantage of the wine hour most nights. This was very enjoyable...great wine (also some sangria), and great conversation with some of the other guests staying at the hotel. They even had board games and Jeopardy! on the Wii for people to enjoy.

Also, I would definitely recommend becoming a Facebook fan of the hotel. You just might get a little extra gift from the hotel (we received two cupcakes from Sugar Bliss, SO delicious!).

The hotel is in a great location...very close to the river walk, as well as Millennium Park and Michigan Avenue, among other things.

One tiny issue was the cost of parking. Everything we looked at on their website said that parking was $42 a night, but when we got there, it was $46 a night. It might be helpful to others if they update their website and promotional materials so everyone is informed. I know it's only a $4 difference per night, but it adds up after a few nights.

I could go on and on about all of the positive attributes of this hotel, but all in all, it was spectactular. They have really thought of just about everything, and there are so many unique extras offered by them that you don't see often from other hotels, especially at such an affordable hotel as this one. The window seats alone are worth it!

Don't hesitate to book this hotel, you will be very happy that you did! It is certainly at the top of our list for the next time we come to Chicago!

My wife and I stayed at Hotel Monaco over the Canada Day weekend and truly enjoyed our stay. Chicago is a great city, and this hotel has 5* quality. Location is great: close to the subway, 5 minutes away from the Magnificent Mile, and 10 minutes away from the Grant Park. Our room was on the 2nd floor and I was concerned it would be noisy. However, it was very quiet and we both slept soundly. Our room was small but very comfortable and clean.

I became a Facebook friend of this hotel and got a few nice freebies thrown in (e.g., continental breakfast and cocktails). Internet is free if you join Kimpton's loyalty program (it's free).

Overall, great hotel. I would stay here again.

The Chicago Monaco upholds the standards of similar Kimpton hotels with helpful staff, quiet rooms, great amenities, and reasonable pricesl It's 4 blocks to the blue line to get back and forth to O Hare. It's near Wacker Drive, river walk and the downtown loop. I was there for a concert at the Chicago Theater -- beautiful in its own right. It has a restaurant in the hotel, and some highly regarded restaurants nearby. My only suggestion is to provide a softer thinner pillow on request.

Room Tip: I had room 1018 toward the back with quiet.

Words cannot describe how amazing, helpful and friendly the staff especially the front desk. Gwen was, for lack of a better term AWESOME!! The concierge (I forgot the concierge's names) were wonderful, recommending restaurants that my family and I thought were the best restaurants ever! They made sure whatever we wanted to do was worth the expenses including the types of tours that my family and I wanted to go on. Now on to the key points to the hotel. Location: great location, Chicago is a city so cabs will always be needed. However, my family and I were walked everywhere and took cabs when we were tired. Rooms: spacious, very clean and amazingly decorated. The window seats were a great touch, very nice to just sit and unwind and have a glass of wine. Perks: the hotel offers complimentary tea and coffee in the AM in addition to a wine reception in the evening. All-in-All Best Hotel and the pinnacle of costumer service and satisfaction.

Comfortable, well-appointed, stylish - easy location to shops on N Wabash (Nordstrom, Bloomingdales), Clark St restaurants like Frontera Grill, and a block from Michigan Avenue.
Staff attentive, helpful, kind. Parking guys flexible - car was easy to get and safe. Hotel Monaco enhanced our visit to Chicago.

Room Tip: request hair dryer before you need it,

4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 23, 2011

We stayed at the Monaco for four nights (sightseeing/pleasure) in June. The location was perfect for us to walk to most of the places we wanted to see. The room was not particularly large, but very nicely furnished and impeccably clean. The staff was pleasant, helpful all the time we were there. They offer a free afternoon wine service in the lobby.
Our room (12th floor) looked out across Wabash Avenue toward a larger office building. By looking way East we could see a little of the Chicago river, and by looking way West we could see a little of the El. Not so exciting views, but we came to see Chicago and we figured you can't get much more Chicago then Wabash Avenue and office buildings. The bed was wonderful. The room had a desk with office chair and a small sofa. All the usual accoutrements. The bathroom was perfectly functional and spotless, but there were no grab bars around the tub/shower and there was not room enough for two to brush their teeth at the same time (not that they would want to).
i have entered a separate review for their restaurant, The Water Street Kitchen.

Room Tip: Ask; rooms on one side have no view.

Roadgard, Thank you for taking the time to complete a review. I'm glad that you got to truly enjoy our amazing location and the newly renovated rooms. We do have handicap accessible guest rooms, which offer the grab bars around the tub/shower areas. We hope to see you again, next time you are in town.

Hotel Monaco is right off the Magnificent Mile and close to several attractions. One day we walked to Oak Street Beach. It was about a mile away. The Monaco was consistent with the Kimpton brand- very friendly service, very clean, beautifully modern decor, and the feel of a small boutique hotel. They are pet friendly and have a complimentary wine services from 5-6. My husband was a big fan of the Starbucks coffee in the mornings. I loved the window seats and the very comfy bed! Make sure to book through the hotel (the generally match other websites) in order to get their special deals like free parking. You can look on their website to see all the offers. It also pays to be a Kimpton InTouch member. You can get free wifi and other email offers.

Lini04, Thank you for taking the time to complete this review. We do offer some great rates on our website and through facebook. I'm glad that you got to enjoy our central location and got the chance to walk up to Oak Street. Many people don't know this, but Chicago actually has a nice beach right off Oak Street!! Great place to just hang out in the summer time.
