“Hotel Monaco: A must-stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 19, 2011

My boyfriend and I booked a room for a special occasion, and this hotel surpassed every expectation. We stayed in a suite and it was absolutely gorgeous. The bed was comfortable, and the room was very spacious. The jacuzzi was also HUGE, while it may be for "two," it was about 4 feet deep. We also enjoyed the hosted wine hour. Although we did not have a goldfish in our room (which was something I had been looking forward to after all the reviews), I'm wondering if that's usually for guests who stay more than one night. Also, we arrived in Chicago around 8 in the morning, and were able to actually check-in (7 hours early!) when we went to drop off our bags. The staff couldn't have been more friendly or helpful. Overall, I really couldn't have asked for a better hotel.

Great smaller boutique hotel, intimate atmosphere and unique Z Gallery decor, attentive service; unique small amenities that no one else is doing. Location great, right on the river, downtown, close to transportation. Front desk, front door excellent service.

Room Tip: Just ask, worked for us and they were great.

My husband and I stay in Kimpton Hotels whenever we can, because they offer excellent value, have fantastic staff, and are in great locations. The Hotel Monaco Chicago is located close to the river in the Chicago Loop, and they offer spacious rooms with a river view that cost just a bit more than their standard rooms. The river view rooms have deep window seats with cushions, and you can relax in the window and watch the river traffic and the scene around you. The staff couldn't have been better; they were cordial, professional, and caring. The hotel is within walking distance of many good restaurants, Millennium Park, and public transit stations.

Our family (2 adults, 2 kids) came to Chicago with another couple for the Chicago Shamrock Shuffle. I have stayed at one other Kimpton Hotel, and I LOVE Kimpton! Hotel Monaco is ideally placed, and everyone was so nice and helpful. Our kids (5 and 7) loved the gift bags when we checked in, and having a goldfish in our room (whom we named "Princess") made their stay. The grown ups enjoyed the wine reception, and our son was so pleased to see the Wii in the lobby! It was a perfect balance for everyone! The hotel is clean and gorgeous! I love how the staff greets you with a "welcome back!" when you return. We will definitely be back in the future!

Thank you so much for taking the time to complete the review! I'm so glad to hear that your whole family had a wonderful time and got to enjoy our Kimpton Kids program along with our little fish friend! Please let your kids konw that Princess is doing well and misses them. Thank you again, Marco Scherer, GM

First the basics - location is perfect if you are taking commuter to Millennium station. Walk two blocks east up Randolph to Wabash take a right and go another 2 1/2 and you are there! Red Line out to Wrigley is 2 blocks from hotel as well. Mag Mile just steps across the river. Greeted by friendly, but not pushy staff and accomodated us for an early check-in. Rooms felt larger with vaulted ceilings, super clean, and amazing mattress for great night sleep.
What puts this hotel a notch above? First the wine reception was amazing and hosted by friendly staff. You don't expect Penfolds and Beualieu Vineyards at a wine reception, but that is what we got and they both never disappoint at least in my mind! Penfolds Chardonnay was very smooth and fruit forward, which surprised because they are mostly known for their reds. Beaulieu Cab was spectacular. Reception lasted from 5-6 and we had 4 small glasses in an hour by the fireplace in the lobby! :-) Talking with a host of the reception mentioned we were celebrating my 50th by going to Cubs that afternoon and of course we were happy because they had won. Later that evening he delivered a complimentary bottle of Cabernet to our room - get this ERNIE BANKS Hall of Fame vintage out of Santa Clara Valley. For a Cubs fan oh my goodness!! That will stay on display for awhile before it gets emptied!! THANK YOU Hotel Monaco for an amazing stay! We will be back when we return to Chicago!

After staying at another Kimpton hotel, we gave this one a try and were very impressed. Staff and accommodations were excellent. Hotel is very close to Chicago river, the L, Marshall Fields (hurts to call it Macy's) and the mile. Breakfast at the hotel was good. We will be back

I stayed at the Hotel Monaco Chicago for two nights this week for work. It was my first experience at a Kimpton Hotel and I absolutely loved it. The rooms were trendy but not overly-so; they were large and nicely decorated and I didn't want to get out of bed in the morning because it was so plush and comfy. The bathrooms were also large and the shower head was spa-like. I loved the free Aveda amenities and animal print robes. My coworker had a room on the train-side of the building the first night and asked to be moved the next night because it kept her up all night. My room was very quiet but it faced another building and had no view whatsoever, so that was the only drawback. There was complimentary coffee, tea and newspapers in the lobby each morning and a wine hour each evening. The staff that I encountered were all very friendly and the hotel was impeccably clean. The location is in a perfect location near shopping, the Chicago theater district and famous Chicago marquee, and Millenium park - all are walkable. I'd highly recommend it for business or pleasure!

Room Tip: Visit the bean at millenium park

Thank you so much for taking the time to complete this survey. Our animal print robes are a popular item, and we sell quite a few of them! I'm sorry to hear that you didn't get a nice view this time around. We do over rooms that have a river view, thy are in a different category, but you can always inquire at the front desk at the time of check in as well. We are very lucky in having a great team!! Thank you again and we look forward to your next stay. Cheers, Marco Scherer, GM
