We were very happy we stayed here for our 4 day Chicago break. First the location could not be better for seeing the city and getting around. The direct train from O'Hare stops one short block from the hotel. The atmosphere is more old world - we like it that way - and if having a smallish room is the price to be paid, that's OK. Everything was clean and friendly. Free wine in the lobby from 5 - 6 pm was fun. Our only grumble, we had to buy our own munchies which was not the way it was at a Klimpton hotel in San Fransisco some years back. Nothing's perfect!

We are from the area, but stayed one night to be close to a wedding reception. The building is archetecturally significant as one of the early steel frame skyscrapers with the huge new "Chicago window".
Decor was interestingly done to be in accordance with the late 19th century origin.
Hospitality was stressed with a very good 1/2 bottle of wine delivered to the room soon after check in and a hospitality hour featuring more wine.
The staff was very helpful taking care of our luggage after check out so we could tour the city, which was featuring free archetectural tours of famous buildings.

The staff was just wonderful here. The front desk was wonderful and though there was only a quiet room without a view available when I tried to check in early, the gentleman at the desk checked my bags and took my cellphone number down and assured me he'd have a great room for me soon, so I went shopping. I was still able to check in early and it was a beautiful room! This is a boutique hotel, that was not originally built as a hotel, and because of that the rooms are of varying sizes, shapes and on the smaller size. My room was beautiful and was more than enough space and had a lovely bathroom. The rooms all have robes for your use as well as an umbrella to use during your stay. They even have bicycles you can use! I loved this hotel!

My favorite place to stay in Chicago. It's a beautiful, historic building at a great location. You can walk to all theaters, Michigan Avenue, and Grant Park. Restaurant on first floor has friendly servie and is extremely charming. Hard to believe you're at the corner of State & Washington. Rooms are cozy and nicely decorated. Top floors have great views. Stay if you get a chance.
