Stayed here on a work trip. Everything that could be wrong was wrong. Doorman did not get all of my bags out of the taxi which I didn't realize until after I had checked in (taxi was long gone) and the doorman lied and said that there was not a bag there (although there was). People make mistakes; just own up to it - don't lie about it. Check-in was wrong. Reservation couldn't be found even though I had made it through the Inner Circle desk a few weeks ago. The rate charged was $80 above what I was quoted when I made the reservation. My other reservation for the next evening at Hotel Monaco wasn't made either and they were sold out. I ended up staying at a Hyatt for the next 2 nights of my work trip due to this experience with Kimpton being so poor.
No recognition of being an Inner Circle member. Construction kept going until 3 AM. When I called to the front desk around 1 AM I was told "you're downtown in a major metropolitan city. . " Umm. . I LIVE in a major metropolitan city (downtown) and there isn't construction like that! At least make the offer to move me.
The phone in the room didn't work and was tied (literally) to the lamp on the bedside. When I went to make a phone call the lamp tipped over onto the bed. Bathroom and room itself were very small. Next morning talked with the person at the front desk who said he was the acting GM. Instead of making anything right all he did was ask the same exact questions for the same information re: the bag in the taxi that I had given the previous evening. When I asked if the person I had given the information to hadn't sent an email (as he told me he had) the "GM" said "well yes, but I'm still asking these questions. . ." How about addressing the things that were WRONG about the stay? The look and feel of the hotel is very old world charm. Building is lovely along with the way the elevators look and the ceilings. No amentiies in the hotel. The restaurant doesn't serve "real" food and was expensive. There was a wine hour but nowhere to really sit. There was nice infused flavored water available in the lobby which was a nice touch. Excellent location during the workday. At night the neighborhood has nothing going on but very central and lots of buses and taxis available.
This is the first Kimpton that I have really been majorly disappointed with out of over 100 nights in the last two years.. I would not recommend staying at this hotel. It was expensive and except for Darrell at the front desk the staff was poor at best.
