“Great Stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 20, 2013

We had a great stay! There were 2 adults and 4 children. We booked the bedroom suite with 2 double beds and a pull out couch. Very nice room, 2 rooms with a small kitchenette also. Will stay again I believe. We went for a trip to The Shedd and to American Girl. It was a little far from The Shedd, but a nice walk to American Girl.

I arrived late on Wednesday, August 7, past 11pm, and the Front Desk manager who received us was excellent. He was very upbeat, warm and inviting without the superficiality. Needless to say, it was a perfect prelude to our stay in Chicago. I have no complaints about this place. The breakfast buffet was great but the scrambled eggs were a bit odd...but eggs will be eggs. The location was also perfect! It was 8 blocks from everywhere. And when you're new to the Chicago, 8 blocks is relatively nothing (I mean, compared to 8 San Francisco blocks, which seem like a mile long).

OH...one afterthought: my room (915) did NOT have many hooks or places to hang your towel. In fact, there was only one hook in the bathroom, and one in the closet. So when I read the field below on "environmentally safe practices," I think adding more hooks or places to hang your towel would help promote "environmentally safe practices," so as to allow guests to reuse their dried towels.

Green Features: The hotel room/bathroom could probably use places to hang towels. This could probably give guests more than one use out of their clean towel.

I would recommend this hotel to anyone. It has one of the things I love most . . . location. It is in the area of Michigan Avenue. Restaurants are very close by. The CTA Red Line runs right down State Street. I don't know what else you could want!

We visited Chicago with two grandsons, ages 11 and 13. The Downtown Hampton Inn was a great choice. We stayed in a two room suite having a bedroom, a living area with a pullout sofa and a kitchen-dining area. The suite was spacious and quiet, perfect for the four of us. The hotel is very well located; within walking distance of the Magnificent Mile and the Willis Tower. The Museum of Science and Industry as well as the Aquarium, the Zoo and Wrigley Field are easily reached by public transport (CTA), with written directions available at the Front Desk . Hotel personnel were very helpful. Breakfast, served between 6 and 10, was quite adequate. The price was an excellent value for Downtown Chicago. One additional suggestion; our grandkids are food court fans which would often not be our choice but an excellent food court can be found in the Water Tower Mall on the Magnificent Mile -not the usual fast food and well worth seeking out.

When trying to select a hotel for our four-night stay to Chicago my wife and I knew we wanted a clean, reasonably-priced hotel in the River North area. This place did not disappoint.

We followed the directions on the hotel's site and used the CTA to get to the hotel from O'Hare Airport. It was quick and painless and we saved tons of money by not taking a cab. The walk to the hotel from the CTA station was about 90 seconds.

The beautiful lobby was inviting and we checked in very easily. We noticed a sign near the elevator that said if the city noise bothers you that they provide free ear plugs. We then made our way up to the 8th floor to a room that fronted W. Illinois Street. Upon looking out the window we noticed the hotel is right next door to a fire station!

We heard plenty of sirens throughout the day but maybe because we were so tired from walking we were not disturbed at all during the night. If you think the noise might bother you though you might want to request a room on a high floor on the side away from W. Illinois Street.

On the subject of noise we actually found that the room doors in the hallway made more noise than the firefighters. It seemed that each door had no softening mechanism on them and so if you let the door go they would slam shut. NOTE TO THE MANAGER - please fix this!

We chose a room with a king bed and a wet bar. The bed was comfy and the signs say they launder the sheets daily. The wet bar was handy for prepping a few meals in the room and for keeping some water bottles cold for walks. There are several shops in the area selling groceries including a Trader Joe's.

The free breakfast was another reason we chose this place. The food was plentiful and very good. There are hot waffle stations, cold cereal, bagels, hot foods like eggs and meat, yogurts, etc. It was an excellent way to start each day!

The location was also primo. It was about 5 minutes to Lou Malnatti's Pizza or Pizzeria Uno. It was also within walking distance to all the attractions we wanted to visit on both sides of the river.

This place was very popular with families. But we also saw many business travelers here too. We would recommend this place without hesitation and I will consider other Hampton properties in future.

Room Tip: The hotel is right next door to a fire station. We noticed a sign near the elevator that said if the...

Stayed here for three nights while visiting Chicago. Nice hotel, good value for Chicago. Great breakfast to start off the day. Within walking distance of the Magnificent Mile, Navy Pier, Millennium Park, Grant Park and for us Field Museum, Shedd Aquarium and Alder Planeterium. Lots of restaurants, entertainment and convenience stores within walking distance. You'll want to get a room on a high floor if you think street noise will bother you. We were so tired we fell asleep on our very comfortable bed and bedding. We drove to Chicago and the valet parking was a little high at $55.00 but it beats finding my own parking space and they delivered my vehicle within 15 minutes every time I needed it.

Thank you so much for your kind words. I would have to agree with you as our location is very hard to beat. Easy access for you to all the major attractions is always a plus.

Parking in the city is very much on the pricey side but are glad to say that we are the cheapest in the area by a large margin. I hope you didnt have to drive in the Chicago traffic too much but always wonderful to find that our valet service is prompt when needed.

I look forward to seeing you again on your future trip to Chicago.

All the best,

I stayed at this hotel for about a day along with 100 other people while on my trip to Chicago back in February. The location was alright because it was sort of hard to find. The main entrance area is pretty spacious and very...luxurious looking. The rooms are really spacious and really nice. Beds are really comfortable. :3 Slept better than any other hotel I've been to. Overall, really good place to stay for a while. (:
