“Excellent Except Parking”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 21, 2013

I've stayed two years in a row at this location and can say the beds and rooms are very comfortable. The included hot and cold breakfast; coffee/tea anytime are very good. Indoor pool, sauna, etc. very nice. The staff is friendly and helpful. The location is convenient and easy to walk to not only Michigan Avenue but many good restaurants within a couple of blocks, including the one attached to the hotel. The underground is 2 blocks away and bus stop one block away. There are only two negatives. First is that the fire department is next door and if you are in a room near is, the noise is not pleasant. They need seriously to increase the sound barrier in the windows. The second is that parking is about $40 per night which I find unacceptable for a hotel of this price. Otherwise, if you don't have a car to park and you get a room away from the fire station (or are not bothered by the noise), then this is an excellent hotel for a visit to Chicago.

Room Tip: Away from the fire station.

THANK YOU so much, Debbie C, for sharing the experience of your most recent stay with us here at the Hampton Inn & Suites. We are so thrilled that you decided to come back to visit us & took time out from your busy schedule to write this review.

We appreciate the comments regarding comfort of our rooms & beds. I apologize for the inconvenience that you may have experienced from the nearby fire station & the unexpected cost of our valet services. However, we do pride ourselves in offering one of the best values for hotel valet parking in the area that also includes unlimited in/out priviledges. Parking in a dense urban area like downtown Chicago can be more expensive than those from less urban areas are used to. We realize the additional expense that is incurred by guests who choose to drive & have compared our valet rates to many comparable area hotels. Our most recent comparison of overnight valet rates:

Hampton Inn & Suites $42
Hilton Garden Inn $49
Embassy Suites $49
Springhill Suites $50
Residence Inn $50
Westin $54

We are always looking for ways to improve the hotel & service we give our guests so we appreciate your comments regarding the 2 issues listed above. For future reference, we do have standard rooms & suites available on the opposite side of the fire station. Feel free to contact the hotel to find a rooming option thatt will better fit your needs & comfort. We look forward to having you back with us again next year to make it 3 years in a row.

All the best,

As a diamond member, and a frequent Hampton client, this was the nicest and by far the most hospitable Hampton I have stayed at in the country. The employees especially made the experience most memorable. From the first point of contact ( lost in downtown) the manager on duty was patient and efficient in guiding us to the location. Valet was extremely polite and prompt in delivering our vehicle. The remaining staff continually asking if we needed anything to make our experience better! Thank you to all for your hard work!

I just returned from a work trip in Chicago and eager to give this Hampton a good review.
The entire staff was very friendly and seemingly enjoyed working there (kudos to the management team). One staff member was notably top-notch and should be a role model for all Hilton family front desk staff, her name is Yanelli (sorry if I spelled that wrong). I travel far too much and 95% of my stays are in the Hilton family, but I was blown away on how great a representative Yannelli is of the Hilton brand of hospitality. Next time I am in Chicago, no questions, this is where I'll stay.

This is a slightly above average chain hotel in downtown Chicago. The location is within walking distance to many fine restaurants and shopping as well as the typical tourist areas of downtown. The staff was almost overly friendly to the point of obnoxious. The rooms have flat screen TV's with a limited cable channel line up. The breakfast was pretty standard- eggs, potatoes, cereal, yogurt etc...There are no good views from even the upper floors. If you're looking for a VIEW this is not your hotel, otherwise go ahead and book it!!!!

Room Tip: Don't bother asking for a high floor thinking you might have a good view. Go for a low floor so...

I can't say enough nice things about staff at the Hampton Inn and Suites. From Housekeeping and Maintenance to Front Desk, they were friendly and helpful. The breakfast area is very large, which is a rarity in most 'complimentary breakfast' hotels, and they'll still hand you a grab and go bag if you don't want to take the time to 'eat in', or have an early flight, etc.
We had a corner suite which was very spacious and bright. Two doubles in the bedroom with a real door on the bath side and closing panels on the other were perfect for my teenage daughters. I had the uncomfortable sofa bed (but aren't they all?!) but since I get up (way) earlier in the morning, I also had the kitchenette and coffee pot. A note about the kitchen, it does NOT have an oven (as we assumed 'full kitchen' meant and brought frozen pizzas. Another note: frozen pizzas don't work in the microwave.
Except for the fire station and its 24/7 mega-decibel sirens the location is great; at the edge of River North, it's just a few blocks to Mag Mile, and an easy taxi ride to the aquarium, show in Lincoln Park, or Navy Pier. There is a 7-11 at the corner of State and W. Illinois with sandwiches and drinks and other staples for your suite.
You might be able to ask for a quieter suite. We were 7th floor, facing West Illinois. and those sirens were LOUD.
But again, the staff was terrific. My sofa bed frame was broken and wouldn't open on the first night, but maintenance came and worked on it within 5 minutes of calling. When the toilet stopped up (" slo flo" doesn't always flow up to the upper floors), maintenance was there again within 5 minutes and called for housekeeping to follow. All those windows made for a chilly room in January, and a call for a blanket had one in - I kid you not- less than two minutes.
Breakfast staff was friendly, and one morning a lady walked around with hot cinnamon buns from the oven.
Bring your ear plugs, and have a great time!

Room Tip: Ask for a quiet side if there is one. The fire station next door is LOUD.

THANK YOU so much, asiapointriders, for sharing the experience of your recent stay with us here at the Hampton Inn & Suites earlier this month. We are so thrilled that you took time out from your busy schedule to write this awesome review.

I personally appreciate your thorough review. you surely covered all of the basics & I am sure that your review will be helpful to others (as I see that it has already been). We appreciate the reviews regarding our prompt & friendly service from all the departments that you encountered during your time with us. Our team always strives to give the service our guests expect & deserve.

I am saddened to hear that the fire station was a disturbance for you. While some guests are not generally disturbed by the noise, we do realize that each person has their own sensitivity to it. All of our spacious corner suites are located on the Dearborn side of the hotel which faces the fire station, so perhaps in the future a higher floor may be better for you. Otherwise, we do have other suites available as well. However, for those light sleepers or to those not accustomed to the constant hustle & bustle of our dense urban downtown area, we do offer earplugs at the front desk.

We look forward to having you back with us at the Hampton on your next trip to Chicago.

We just spent six days in Chicago and had a wonderful experience at this hotel. Our kids loved the place and had plenty of room to move around in our large corner suite. Rooms and the rest of the hotel were very clean. Breakfast is standard Hampton Inn and Suites style, which works well for our large family. And it's free, which saves a lot of money especially in a big city. Pool was clean and well maintained. Location of the hotel is great for getting out and walking around downtown to find a place to eat at night or shop during the day. I think walking to the museums (The Field, Adler, Shedd) from the hotel would be fine if the weather is nice but it was too cold for us to do that. As others have mentioned before, the fire station across from the hotel is quite busy and the noise could be an issue for some. But it was also constant entertainment for our kids during our stay. We were on the 9th floor, which probably helps with the noise. I'd have to say that the best part of this place is the people working there. They are simply excellent. Always smiling, very helpful, and great with kids. Great service overall!

Room Tip: The corner suite is huge. Would definitely recommend it if you don't mind paying a little extra...

My two friends and I spent a couple nights here. Although not entirely geared for young people who enjoy a few plus drinks in the evenings, we enjoyed our stay. First and foremost, one of the hotel front desk employees deserves recognition--Yaneli. She was eager to check us in and offered excellent support as we made our way to the room. Yaneli also checked us out. Apart from her exceptional duties and routines of services, she displayed joy and energy that was not overpowering and "in your face." She was a natural at service. Call and ask for her when booking or if you have any questions.
The reason why I say the hotel is not geared for young adults is because it's family-friendly. The free continental breakfast (very good HOT food) and low price ($84/night in Jan.) attracted screaming families as did the pool and jacuzzi area. If you care for a dip, go in the early afternoon when no one's around.
Another drawback is the fire station across the street. Request a room on the opposite end of the building that's on the 8th floor or above.
Overall, excellent service from the front desk to the valet to the bellmen, a highly recommended place to stay.

Room Tip: -Rooms away from the fire station are quieter. -Get a King Suite instead of the two double beds if...

THANK YOU so much, david H, for sharing the experience of your recent stay with us here at the Hampton Inn & Suites earlier this month. We are so thrilled that you took time out from your busy schedule to write this awesome review.

We appreciate the comments regarding the hotel. Also, YANELI says THANK YOU for shouting her out. We are proud to have a guest services representative on our staff as committed & dedicated to our guests as she is. We definitely commend her. Our entire team always strives to give the service our guests expect & deserve. As we are always looking for ways to improve the hotel & service we give our guests.

Here at the Hampton Inn & Suites we are primarily geared towards corporate & family leisure guests. But we love everyone so I would love to hear your recommendations of how we can be more accomodating to the younger adults. We currently have cool packages such as the Howl at the Moon Package which includes 2 complimentary passes to Howl at the Moon & a bottle of wine for pre-gaming. We are also just 1 block North of Hubbard Street & a mile South of Division, which both have some the best Chicago Night Life spots.

We certainly look forward to having you back with us at the Hampton on your next trip to Chicago from Wisconsin.
