We stayed for easter 2015 and we really had a good time!
The hotel is a bit far from main attractions but it is ok. The zone is not as bad as other recommenders suggested. I mean afterall it is Chicago, so you have to be carefull wherever you go. We had a really good deal for this hotel, and everytime we wanted to go out there was a taxi waiting for us at the entrance of the hotel.
The room was huge and clean. It smells good, I also have to say they have jazz music in the lobby and awesome paints of jazz players. Wondering how much you have to pay for taxis? Around 10 bugs from the hotel and millenium park and viceversa.

Dear
Alexis V

Guayaquil, Ecuador

Thank you so much for your gracious and honest review of our property. It brings us great pleasure to see that our hard work and dedication is paying off. The Chicago South Loop is s a lovely hotel, in such a historic, up and coming area. We are located just south of the city, but with the new train station recently opened, 2 main bus lines and the ease of taxis as you mentioned it’s quite easy to get into The Heart of the Downtown area. Please always look at us as your "home away from Home" while traveling in the Chicago area, please remember we also offer free parking which makes us a great value as well!
Thank you for sharing your experience with the Trip Advisor family!

Stayed in room 224 and I have bites all over my body. The door lock broke on me. The soap was never restocked. The food in the restaurant was mediocre. There is a little cafe and the lady that runs it is super nice and makes decent breakfast snacks.

If you want a place that is far enough from downtown to not cost a fortune, but close enough to not cost a fortune in cab fare, this is the place. I was impressed. Very clean hotel. The room was just as advertised and very clean. Everyone here that we had contact with was very friendly and helpful. Next time my family comes here we will be staying here. I will also be recommending this hotel to anyone I know wanting to visit Chicago.

We stayed at the Chicago South Loop for an event at McCormick Place because the Hyatt was full. The hotel is a bit out of the downtown area but is a good choice especially if you can get a deal. Perks include free parking in a nice lot, free and easy to use wifi, nice business center with free printing of boarding passes, etc., fridge in each room, spacious rooms with comfortable beds, attentive staff, nice updated bathrooms, very clean in both rooms and lobby, nice TV with plenty of channels. The microwave and hot tea/coffee are in the business center downstairs -- small coffee maker in each room.

There is a coffee/sandwich shop open for breakfast and lunch and an independently owned bar and restaurant at the other end -- bar is open for lunch and dinner. Noise can be an issue over the bar, and the other end of hotel is nearer the 'L' so bring your white noise machine (or app on your phone) for a great night's sleep.

Here are tips on travel to/from hotel. Of course you can use taxis or Uber, but to save money use the bus and train. From the airport, take the train (the blue line from O'Hare) to Clark/Lake and transfer to the green line headed south. Get off at the new Cermak stop (which is not on all the maps yet). From the stop, walk south on State Street to 26th - about three large blocks - and hotel is on your right. If you don't like the walk, get off the train and cross State Street to the bus stop. Get on the 29 bus south. The busses take cash, but you will need a Ventra card to travel on the train and it is easier for the bus. Purchase your Ventra at any train depot or at the airport before boarding the train.

To travel from the hotel to McCormick place or the Hyatt Regency McCormick, walk east on 26th St. until you reach MLK (about 5 blocks) and then turn left on MLK to head north another 2-3 blocks. This is a pleasant walk that takes you past Mercy Hospital, a quaint Episcopal church, and some residential housing. If you try to walk north on State St. first and then cut over, you will be in a deserted area that does not feel so safe. To cut down on the walking, you can catch the 21 bus at the corner of 26th and Michigan and it will drop you off right in front of the Hyatt after a short 4 minute ride. That way your walk is a short 2 blocks.

To travel into town to sight see, you can pick up the 29 bus right across the street from hotel and ride all the way to Navy Pier, or get off and transfer to the red train further north on state street. There are other bus lines from the stop at 26th and Michigan that go up Michigan Ave. Download the CTA bus tracker app so you can see exactly when busses are arriving.

If you plan to use the busses a lot, consider a 1, 3 or weeklong unlimited Ventra pass. Otherwise, just load a certain dollar amount and reload as needed at any train station.

The transportation may sound overwhelming, but if my 11-year old daughter and I can do it (being southern suburbanites who drive everywhere), you can too!

One more thing -- take the 2 block walk to Ricobene's for a great, cheap meal!!

Room Tip: Ask for a room away from bar.

The hotel is set in downtown Chicago close to the convention center. The downtown area is being renovated to modernize the area, and attract more of the young professional crowd. The hotel is clean and the maid service is great. The hotel is young and we need to see how it invests within itself to gain more stars. I enjoyed my stay for 4 nights.

Nothing around this hotel, bad choice if you don't have a car, this is a dead zone. Noisy train is passing just beside the hotel. Internet was down for more than 2 days this is unacceptable in 2015. Called front desk to ask the internet status and they didn't answer the phone! I went down to the reception the only answer was internet is down, we are working on it...for 2 days. Pillows were disgusting, the carpet was stained and dirty. Hair drier was not working. Had to fight with the shampoo/soap dispensers to get a few drops. Overpriced for what it is because of a convention in the area. Bad location, dirty and outdated room. Will definitely never go back again...

The hotel is a real gem considering its location. The staff is very helpful.

The only inconvenience I faced was that the coffee/tea and the microwave was at a central location within the business centre rather than inside each room.

The park is ample and the bus station is minutes walk
