“Great stay!!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 24, 2013

I was attending a function at Eastern Il University this weekend - I usually stay in Mattoon.
I have to say the Front Desk employees were great. I was real happy with the King room
it was clean and comfortable. The breakfast was a nice perk. I will be back there next time
I am in town.
I would highly recommend this hotel.

We stayed at the Unique Suites Hotel on 3-7 and dined in their restaurant The Brickhouse. I understand the hotel has recently been renovated and appears as they are continuing their renovations. The lounge is scheduled to open later this month. The renovations are very nice and the the decor in the lobby and rooms is restful and nicely done. We got a fantastic rate (being state employees in town for a meeting) and appreciated the very reasonable rate.

The rooms were nice, mostly clean, and the beds were comfortable. The heating/cooling unit was a little difficult to control but it was ok. I usually won't stay in hotels where the rooms open on to a parking lot but there were few people staying at the hotel so it was quiet. If the hotel was full and busy, I would imagine you might experience parking lot noise.

The food was overall good. The service was not great. We had to wait several times, he didn't bring the food out all at once, did not check in with us, and seemed rather surly and clearly did not find passion in his work. But it was adequate.

I had the chicken piccata which was oddly prepared (my colleague called it "different"). The piccata I have always had is lightly breaded chicken breasts and then served with a lemony wine sauce. This seemed more like gravy. But it was tasty, we were hungry...so. Some had burgers and chicken parm and everyone seemed to like the food just fine. If the service had been better, it would have been a nicer experience. The restaurant decor was very nice and they have done a nice job with the ambiance. VERY limited wine list so they need to work on that.

The complimentary breakfast was about fair to average. They need to offer healthier options like a more nutritious cereal selection (does anyone eat fruit loops anymore?) and yogurt, fresh fruit bowl, etc. But it gave me an excuse to eat a belgian waffle.

Overall, it was a lovely hotel but they could do some work on the restaurant (food and service) were okay but not great.

In the summer, there will be a nice outdoor pool and patio. I would like to return in the summer and enjoy that area. Nicely landscaped.

Room Tip: ask for an upgrade. my colleague booked by calling directly and they gave her an upgrade and I book...

We booked this not knowing it was off the beaten path, but it was a very pleasant surprise. Good size room, WiFi, and fridge. The bed was large and very comfortable with plenty of pillows. Th only complaint I had was our room was right outside a spotlight so the room wasn't very dark. We would definitely stay there again

Room Tip: Try to get one away from the spotlights if you want a dark room.

My food was cold and overcooked. I tried everyones food at the table and all were extremly tasteless. If the brickhouse is striving for a steak or chop house they have fallen far below our expectations. Also food is way overpriced for what is being served.

My wife and I just ate at the newly opened Brickhouse Grill in the newly renovated Unique Suites and Hotel in Charleston, Illinois. Tonight, January 16th was the opening of the restaurant. The restaurant had a nice soft grey interior with mood lighting and a fireplace in the center of the restaurant. My wife had the grilled chicken and steamed brocolli. The brocolli was excellent with a little crunch to it. The chicken was excellent. I had a chef salad that could serve two. The wait staff was extremely knowledgable for an opening night. The tea seemed to be brewed as it didn't have that instant tea gritty taste. It seems to be a nice place to relax and eat a nice quality meal. We'll be back.

Being from Charleston, I have had a chance to witness various attempts to revitalize this property during return visits. This is by far the best one yet. New owners and staff have done an excellent job of rejuvenating an older hotel. All staff was friendly and willing to help in any way.All public areas looked nice and freshly redone. Restaurant was not open yet, but if what I saw was any indication I am sure it will be a great addition to Charleston.

Wow, very nice for the money. New, clean nicely decorated. Includes breakfast. Wonderful ehat they did to this old motel. Would have never imagined it possible. They just need softer pillows, but everything else was great.
