On a recent trip, my wife and I had the displeasure of getting tired enough from driving to stop in at this EconoLodge. As Choice Privileges members, we always try to stay at Choice hotels and we have had very good luck with them over the years. This experience was contrary to the norm.

The room was disgusting...

- Carpets were stained and nasty
- Shower was filthy with plenty of mildew/mold
- Mattress was ancient and dirty
- Fridge severly needed to be replaced. I'm not sure any amount of cleaning could have saved it.
- Door locks needed to be replaced or preferably the entire door.

If we hadn't been so tired from the drive, we definitely would have left. However, we braved it out and ended up sleeping in our clothes. I think you'll know why when you see from the picture of the mattress.

In addition to the state of the room, the area that the hotel is in is a little questionable. However, I am not one to condemn a hotel for location. My opinions are focused on things that the hotel management and staff can change and, in this case, the hotel is essentially being left in its' tattered shape.

The one positive was that the front desk service we received was courteous. I also lodged a complaint with Choice Hotels and we were given a 30% credit for the stay, even though I never asked for a credit or refund. I thought that was a very stand-up thing to do. In the end, I hope the hotel management has plans for a massive clean-up project.

My fiance and I were coming back home on a long road trip only to find every hotel from Rockford IL to Champaign booked, when we finally reached the Econo Lodge at 3 am we were beyond tired. The staff was amazingly nice, the hotel is obviously being remodeled as it has normal older hotel wear and tear, our room was extremely clean. We had two phones, a microwave and a fridge. The bed was comfortable and the room was nice and cool. We only slept seven hours before heading back out, but it was well worth it. If I were to come through here again I would feel more than comfortable staying at the Econo Lodge again and the price could not be beat!

I was looking for a cheap stop and go place to stay. Is this the Ritz NO! but what you expect for $40/night isnt much. This place was clean had a fridge and microwave in the room. The rooms arent in great shape but they look like they are trying. Have traveled alot the past few months and the staff was the friendliest and most helpful I've dealt with in a long time

I travel A LOT and was impressed with my stay at this hotel. The price was so inexpensive I expected the worst, but I am always on a tight budget so I ran the risk. The surroundings are not visually impressive and there was the normal signs of hotel wear and tear as with a hotel of any standard, even some of the 4 star hotels I've stayed in.

The staff were exceptionally helpful even printed out map quest directions to two different locations in town for me! The "free" breakfast was awesome, try the waffles if you visit! The room was decent, quiet and clean.

I found out when I was checking out the hotel was under new management and is close to being completely remodeled.

  • Liked — great overall value without compermising. Also, the Staff made me feel so welcome - excellent customer service!
  • Disliked — No pool and or jacuzzi

I am a 25 year old female and came to champaign on a business trip. When I entered the room, there was this smell of cigarette everywhere although the room itself was a non-smoking room. Added to that, there was black powdery substance everywhere (on the carpet, also on the phone). The sheets and the comforters looked disgusting. The towels also were old and I didn't feel like using them, Thank god I bought my own. When I pulled the sheets, I saw stains everywhere on the bed. The bathroom was the only place that seemed OK (probably because people who stayed in these rooms didn't know the word "hygiene" and used the bathroom the least). The next day, I noticed many people outside my room drinking and talking loudly and I couldn't sleep. Since the rooms had internet, I looked up on tripadvisor to see the reviews on th hotel and was even more disappointed. The breakfast was also only mediocre. I shifted to another room on the second floor and it was much better (atleast better than the other room on the first floor). The hotel staff seemed nice, but seriously its high time they renovate the hotel and also increase the prices for staying to avoid all kinds of people staying there. Also, they better be strict about enforcing some policies not to disturb other people staying in the hotel.
