“Winderful gourmet food”

I had one of the best meals in a while. Cauliflower soup, best steak ever with fingerling potatoes and exquisite paring wines.

“Downtown Delight”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 3, 2012

We were very pleased to find this pleasant restaurant in downtown Champaign. Our server. Kelly, was delightful and helpful and the food was superb. Bacaro is a quiet little place on an interesting street full of busy restaurants and bars. The ambiance is pleasant, dark, but not too dark to read the menu and the wine and spirits selections were unique. The menu lists 4 or 5 pasta dishes, 5 or 6 entees and several appetizers. All seem ordinary at first glance, but the preparations and accompaniments are interesting and unusual. One of us had the pork loin and the other had the ribeye steak. Both of us ended up with very clean plates. In fact we were too full to even think about the desert choices even though they sounded yummy. Parking is tight in this region, but parking meters do not have to be fed on Staurdays and Sundays which helped.

“Great food...could soften the service.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 22, 2012 via mobile

Just got back and the food was off the charts! Service was a bit off...no new glass for a new order of wine...food took a while but was great, but you need to be patient. Excellent scallops, risotto and dessert, not to mention the French press coffee that was delicious. Overall, a great experience!

“Food as Art”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 13, 2012 via mobile

I travel quite a bit and visit highly ranked restaurants where I go. Few out do Bacaro in quality and certainly not in price. The owner is a artist with food. I never get better fish than when Thad is cooking. They use local ingredients where possible, have an extensive wine list, and the risotto is always perfectly cooked. The service is almost always excellent. Compared to the best restaurants around the country, the prices are lower. When I am home a visit to eat at Bacaro is always a high point. The portions are not huge, which I prefer, but adequate. If folks are looking for large quantities for low prices this is not your restaurant. If you want excellent food, beautifully served with a glass of great wine, this is your place in C-U.

“Visit Daughter”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed August 7, 2012

I found this place to be a little pretentious, but with trip advisor indicating the #1 restaurtant in Champaign/Urbana is Papa Del's Pizza and the #3 being the Pancake House I am assuming that most of the reviews were written by locals.
We found the decor to be acceptable and the food to be interesting in a postive way [the sea bass was good] however this restaurant is a little pricey [$130.00 not including tax or tip for three entrees, three drinks and one shared appetizer] I believe for the area, the service in my opinion was slightly lacking for the price [waitress was a college student not majoring in restaurant managment] and unfortunately one dish ordered was not served and they ran out of a certain brand of beer.
I haven't been to any other restaurants in the area so I have no idea if this is the best but if it is the best its the best in a capative market.
