“Great views, comfortable accommodation, helpful staff”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 4, 2013

We have stayed at this apart hotel on very many occasions over the last 10 years because it has everything we want! Quiet and peaceful, friendly and helpful staff, 2 pools, enough sun beds for everyone, pool bar, restaurant, free wi-fi, spacious rooms all with sea view as standard ........ what more could you want at such a reasonable price? ........ our secret is out!

Hotel is at the end of the main road in the village, we stayed 2 nights and were enchanted with the sea views and stars at night so clear you could see tons. Only ate in the hotel one evening and food was good, served as a buffet and had choices for all tastes. We had drinks in the evening at local surfer style bar about 50yds from hotel, just sat and watched the sun go down listening to some Bob Marley style music. We did walk all the way to the port through the old village which is great, there is a waterfall by the fishing sheds which is spectacular.

Room Tip: Air con is very weak we ended sleeping with windows wide open to get air in

We stayed just the one night but would have liked to stay longer. We found it very comfortable and very good value. We had the buffet dinner but ould have used the kitchenette for a basic meal. Two pools and a jacuzi and plenty of sunbeds with a bar made a very comfotable day. Staff were friendly and efficient. Our only slight complaint was that the bar wasn't very well stocked (no lemonade for a mixer) and not keen on the wines offered and we had had some very good local one elsewhere. There are a few nice bars on the road below for early evening Mojitas. Would be happy to stay again

Room Tip: First fllo had no problems.

We had one night here and were very pleased all round. Very friendly helpful staff, spotlessly clean throughout, very reasonable buffet (which we chose rather than a la carte) and a good choice at breakfast. The only slight minus is the lack of a decent room to use if you are at the end of your stay but need to remain waiting for a flight. Also, there didn't seem to be much by way of restaurants in walking distance.
The hotel is right by the sea with huge cliffs behind and it was nice to hear the sound of the waves from the room.

My friend and I stayed for 1 week at this great aparthotel. The rooms are very spacious and have everything needed for a short break: one minor complaint was that you can only get one pan on the two ringed hob in the kitchenette at a time! Fabulous views from the balcony and very much a 'local feel' with chit chat of locals in nearby houses (not too near to be an issue and a nice feel). Once the windows closed though total silence! Bliss. Pool areas are great as was the spa experience although my friends pedicure was somewhat limited and not great value for money at 30 euros. We were not overly impressed with the food although the grilled prawns were magnificent: we only ate at the hotel twice though. Local Maktub pub is definitely worth a visit especially if you meet 'Henrique' the owner. We found a second supermarket in the old town part of Paul Do Mar next to the marina which had all we needed. The one recommended by the hotel was closing down so very limited stock: we cleared it of all fruit and veg!!!!!! The hotel could be doing with a freshen up (which we think is happening soon) but we had no complaints as everything was clean and very comfortable. Possibly one of the best rooms I have stayed in and terrific value. Would recommend a visit to Jardim Do Mar and poss a stay at the Maktub Guest house which is lovely. We did not hire a car but would be necessary if not there just for total relaxation. Beach area seems to be developing: small and not sand but a great swim in the sea from the pier. Staff at Paul Do Mar Aparthotel are really friendly and helpful: towels for the pool provided FOC and fresh daily. I would definitely go back

Room Tip: all rooms have sea views

We just spent one night there, but were quite pleased with that we got for our money. The room was nice enough, but a little worn and we didn't try to use anything of the kitchen other than the fridge. It looked like it could need a bit more equipment and a coffee maker. Beds were decent, and it all seemed quite clean. Bathroom was big with all you need. We had their buffet diner and were quite pleased with the food and the good deal we felt it was. Breakfast was also quite good, as soon as we found out where to go....

Most of the staff was very nice, we were quite impressed by a local waiter who's English was fluent and other than one lady at the reception they all had a very good attitude towards the guests. The local minimart had hardly anything worth getting, so do shop for food before you arrive if you plan to use the kitchen in the room.

We understood that the hotel now is under new management and it all seemed very clean now. The hotel is pretty big and I assume it could deal with groups quite well.

We enjoyed the free wifi in the bar area and quite a few people seemed to like the pools as well as the Jacuzzi.

Room Tip: They all have sea view

Quiet location, end of the road in a tiny fishing village. Excellent seaview, behind only mountains. Lobby contains WiFi, rest of the hotel not. Lobby is ok but very dark and TV is usually loud on sports. Reception is ok and staff are friendly and speak good english. Rooms are spacy, beds are a bit hard and springy but clean, too little light. Bathroom is ok but dark too. I guess the hotel is saving on electricity. But this is too much savings. The inside and outside pool are cleaned daily but cold, we were in wintertime. Luckily the whirlpool is nice and warm.
We did not try the breakfast or dinner. The rooms have an electric cooker with two heating places. The equipment in the kitchen is absolutely minimum. Only two of everything. If you have kids, take your own stuff. No coffeecooker. Sufficient parking spaces available on the property and otherwise along the seaside road. Two small bars right around the corner, nice for sundowners, two restaurants in walking distance. You will need a car for groceries.
Sometimes when there are a lot of waves the seanoise can be a bit too loud, but what do you want with this kind of seaview?

Room Tip: All rooms have seaview so that's no problem. The fourth floor contains apartments that are conne...
